And the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Now Asahel was as swift of foot as a wild gazelle.


Then Abner looked behind him and said, “Is it you, Asahel?” And he answered, “It is I.”


Abner said to him, “Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and seize one of the young men and take his spoil.” But Asahel would not turn aside from following him.


And when Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him privately, and there he struck him in the stomach, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.


So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had put their brother Asahel to death in the battle at Gibeon.


And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.


Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.


Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.


Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left,
