And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.”


And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.


Now there happened to be there a worthless man, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite. And he blew the trumpet and said, “We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; every man to his tents, O Israel!”


the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.”


And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, struck him down with the sword and escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.


And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword.


Let them curse, but you will bless! They arise and are put to shame, but your servant will be glad!


And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, the Lord, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.


Moreover, I gave them statutes that were not good and rules by which they could not have life,


Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death,


Now therefore let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is the Lord who has stirred you up against me, may he accept an offering, but if it is men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for they have driven me out this day that I should have no share in the heritage of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’
