Then Joab and his men attacked the Arameans. The Arameans ran away from Joab and his men.


But {David defeated the Arameans, and} the Arameans ran away from the Israelites. David killed 700 chariot drivers and 40,000 horse soldiers. David also killed Shobach the captain of the Aramean army.


My strength is gone,\par like water poured out on the ground.\par My bones have separated.\par My courage is gone! {\cf2\super [126]} \par


But evil people are the Lord’s enemies,\par and those evil people will be destroyed.\par Their valleys will become dry and burn.\par They will be completely destroyed.\par


God, you are awesome!\par No person can stand against you\par when you are angry.\par


Your “vine” was burned in the fire\par like dry dung.\par You were angry at it and destroyed it.\par


The mountains melt like wax\par before the Lord, the Master of the earth.\par


Your powerful voice scares people,\par and they run away from you.\par Your greatness causes the nations\par to run away.”\par


\{The mountains\} would burst into flames\par like burning bushes.\par \{The mountains would boil like\}\par water on the fire.\par Then your enemies would learn about you.\par Then all nations would shake with fear\par when they see you.\par


Evil is like a small fire. First, the fire burns weeds and thorns. Next, the fire burns the larger bushes in the forest. And finally, it becomes a great fire—and everything goes up in smoke.


Egypt, your strong soldiers will be killed.\par They won’t be able to stand\par because the Lord will push them down.\par


That is why those people will soon disappear. They will be like the fog that comes early in the morning—that fog comes and then soon disappears. The Israelites will be like chaff {\cf2\super [144]} that is blown from the threshing floor. {\cf2\super [145]} The Israelites will be like smoke that rises from a chimney and disappears.


The mountains will melt under him\par like wax before a fire.\par The valleys will split open\par and flow like water down a steep hill.\par
