Then the Lord said to Elijah, “Go, stand in front of me on the mountain. I will pass by you.” [211] Then a very strong wind blew. The wind caused the mountains to break apart. It broke large rocks in front of the Lord. But that wind was not the Lord! After that wind, there was an earthquake. But that earthquake was not the Lord.


I said to the sea,\par ‘You can come this far, but no farther.\par This is where your proud waves\par will stop.’\par


\{My enemies were trying to kill me!\}\par The ropes of death were all around me.\par I was caught in a flood carrying me to that place of death. {\cf2\super [100]} \par


\{So God said\}:\par “You people living in Jerusalem,\par and you, man of Judah, {\cf2\super [45]} \par think about me and my vineyard. {\cf2\super [46]} \par


The Lord says,\par “The mountains may disappear,\par and the hills may become dust.\par But my kindness will never leave you.\par I will make peace with you,\par and it will never end.”\par The Lord shows mercy to you.\par And he is the One that said these things.\par


I looked at the mountains,\par and they were shaking.\par All of the hills were trembling.\par


Surely you are afraid of me.’”\par This message is from the Lord.\par “You should shake with fear in front of me.\par I am the One who made the beaches\par to be a boundary for the sea.\par I made it that way to keep the water\par in its place forever.\par The waves may pound the beach,\par but they will not destroy it.\par The waves may roar as they come in,\par but they can’t go beyond the beach.\par


The mountains will melt under him\par like wax before a fire.\par The valleys will split open\par and flow like water down a steep hill.\par


The Lord will come,\par and the mountains will shake \{with fear\},\par and the hills will melt away.\par The Lord will come,\par and the earth will shake with fear.\par The world and every person on it\par will shake with fear.\par


It rained hard and the water rose. The winds blew and hit that house. But the house did not fall, because the house was built on rock.


Every island disappeared and there were no more mountains.


Then the angel said to me, “You saw the water where the prostitute {\cf2\super [128]} sits. These waters are the many peoples, the different races, nations, and languages \{in the world\}.
