Speak kindly to Jerusalem!\par Tell Jerusalem,\par ‘Your time of service is finished.\par You have paid the price for your sins.’”\par The Lord punished Jerusalem—\par twice for every sin she did.\par


Wake up! Wake up Zion! {\cf2\super [420]} \par Dress yourself!\par Put on your strength!\par Holy Jerusalem, stand up!\par People that have not agreed\par to follow God {\cf2\super [421]} \par will not enter you again.\par Those people are not pure and clean.\par


“There will never again be news of violence\par in your country.\par People will never again attack your country\par and steal from you.\par You will name your walls,\par ‘Salvation.’\par You will name your gates,\par ‘Praise.’\par


“‘I will make an Agreement with the people of Israel and Judah. This Agreement will last forever. In this Agreement, I will never turn away from those people. I will always be good to them. I will make them want to respect me. Then they will never turn away from me.


I will make good things happen to Judah and Israel again. I will make those people strong like in the past.


They sinned against me—but I will wash away that sin. They fought against me—but I will forgive them.


But I will take everything from Esau. {\cf2\super [400]} \par I will find all of his hiding places.\par He will not be able to hide from me.\par His children, relatives, and neighbors\par will all die.\par


The Lord says,\par “At that time, people will try hard\par to find Israel’s guilt.\par But there will be no guilt.\par People will try to find Judah’s sins,\par but no sins will be found.\par Why? Because I am saving a few\par survivors {\cf2\super [410]} from Israel and Judah.\par And I am forgiving them\par for all of their sins.”\par


Be happy, people of Edom.\par Be happy, you people that live\par in the land of Uz.\par But remember, the cup of the Lord’s anger\par will come around to you, too.\par When you drink from that cup (punishment),\par you will get drunk\par and will make yourselves naked.\par


The sin of the daughter of my people {\cf2\super [28]} \par was very great.\par Their sin was greater than the sins\par of Sodom and Gomorrah. {\cf2\super [29]} \par Sodom and Gomorrah\par were destroyed suddenly.\par No human hand caused that destruction. {\cf2\super [30]} \par


And the other nations will know that I am the Lord. And they will know that I make Israel my special people by putting my holy place there among them forever.’”


And I did not accept {\cf2\super [2]} Esau. I destroyed Esau’s hill-country. {\cf2\super [3]} Esau’s country was destroyed, and now only wild dogs {\cf2\super [4]} live there.”


Maybe the people of Edom will say, “We were destroyed. But we will go back and build our cities again.”
