So God brought the King of Babylon to attack the people of Judah and Jerusalem. {\cf2\super [455]} The king of Babylon killed the young men even when they were in the temple. He didn’t have mercy on the people of Judah and Jerusalem. The king of Babylon killed young and old people. He killed men and women. He killed sick and healthy people. God permitted Nebuchadnezzar to punish the people of Judah and Jerusalem.


I hear the terrible things people say about me.\par Those people turned against me.\par They plan to kill me.\par


That person will come and take you away. Your punishment will be terrible. Your punishment will come early in the morning, and it will continue late into the night.


So the Lord says: “I will soon make something terrible happen to the people of Judah. They will not be able to escape! They will be sorry. And they will cry to me for help. But I will not listen to them.


“Lord, have you completely rejected\par the nation of Judah?\par Lord, do you hate Zion {\cf2\super [124]} ?\par You hurt us so badly\par that we can’t be made well again.\par Why did you do that?\par We were hoping for peace,\par but nothing good has come.\par We were hoping for a time of healing,\par but only terror came.\par


The next day Pashhur took Jeremiah out from between the blocks of wood. Then Jeremiah said to Pashhur, “The Lord’s name for you is not Pashhur. Now the Lord’s name for you is Terror on Every Side.


After that happens,’” this message is from the Lord, “‘I will give Zedekiah king of Judah to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. I will also give Zedekiah’s officials to Nebuchadnezzar. Some of the people in Jerusalem will not die from the terrible sicknesses. Some of the people will not be killed with swords. Some of them will not die from hunger. But I will give those people to Nebuchadnezzar. I will let Judah’s enemy win. Nebuchadnezzar’s army wants to kill the people of Judah. So the people of Judah and Jerusalem will be killed with swords. Nebuchadnezzar will not show any mercy. He will not feel sorry for those people.’


So, the Lord God All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: “Why are you hurting yourselves by continuing to worship idols? You are separating the men and women, the children and babies from the family of Judah. And so you leave yourselves without any survivors {\cf2\super [354]} from the family of Judah.


What do I see?\par That army is scared.\par The soldiers are running away.\par Their brave soldiers are defeated.\par They run away in a hurry.\par They don’t look back.\par There is danger all around.”\par The Lord said these things.\par


Don’t go out into the fields.\par Don’t go on the roads.\par Why? Because the enemy has swords\par and there is danger everywhere.\par


The Lord will curse you, and you will not have many children. He will curse your land and you will not have good crops. He will curse your animals and they will not have many babies. He will curse all your calves and lambs.
