Maybe that angel will be kind to that person and say \{to God\},\par ‘Save this person from the place of death!\par I have found a way to pay for his \{sin\}.’\par


God saved my soul from going down\par to the place of death.\par Now I can enjoy life again.’\par


You covered it with water like a blanket.\par The water covered the mountains.\par


The water flowed down from the mountains,\par into the valleys, and then to the places\par you made for it.\par


\{I almost died!\}\par Death’s ropes were wrapped around me.\par The grave was closing in around me.\par I was scared and worried.\par


Hurry, answer me Lord!\par I have lost my courage.\par Don’t turn away from me.\par Don’t let me die and become like\par the dead people lying in the grave.\par


Why? Because, Lord, you will not leave\par my soul in the place of death.\par You will not let your faithful one rot\par in the grave. {\cf2\super [88]} \par


Ropes of the grave were all around me.\par Traps of death lay before me.\par


You lifted me out of the grave.\par You let me live.\par I did not have to stay with the dead people\par lying in the pit. {\cf2\super [181]} \par


I said, “God, what good is it if I die\par and go down into the grave?\par Dead people just lie in the dirt!\par They don’t praise you.\par They don’t tell people\par how much we can depend on you.\par


Give your worries to the Lord,\par and he will care for you.\par The Lord will never let good people\par be defeated.\par


God made the mountains with his power.\par We see his power all around us.\par


There is nothing to stand on.\par I am sinking down, down into the mud.\par I am in deep water.\par And the waves are crashing around me.\par I am about to drown.\par


I told myself I would live to be old.\par But then it was my time to go through\par the gates of Sheol. {\cf2\super [365]} \par Now I will spend all of my time there.\par


Look! My troubles are gone!\par I now have peace.\par You love me very much.\par You did not let me rot in the grave.\par \{You forgave all my sins.\}\par You threw my sins far away.\par


Who measured the oceans\par in the palm of his hand?\par Who used his hand to measure the sky?\par Who used a bowl to measure all the dust\par of the earth?\par Who used measuring scales to measure\par the mountains and hills?\par \{It was the Lord!\}\par


I will send you down into that deep hole—to the place where dead people are. You will join the people that died long ago. I will send you to the world below, like all the other old, empty cities. You will be with all the others that go down to the grave. No one will live in you then. You will never again be in the land of the living!


“Now, none of the trees by that water will be proud. They won’t try to reach the clouds. None of the strong trees that drink that water will brag about being tall. Why? Because all of them have been appointed to die. They will all go down into the world below—to Sheol, the place of death. They will join the other people who died and went down into that deep hole.”


The mountains saw you and shook.\par The water flowed off the land.\par The water from the sea made a loud noise\par as it lost its power over the land.\par


The Lord stood and judged the earth.\par He looked at the people of all the nations.\par And they shook with fear.\par For many years the mountains stood strong.\par But those mountains fell to pieces.\par The old, old hills fell down.\par God has always been like that!\par


So I tell you, you are Peter. {\cf2\super [230]} And I will build my church on this rock. The power of death {\cf2\super [231]} will not be able to defeat my church.


My anger will burn like a fire, burning down to the deepest grave, [214] burning the earth and all it produces, burning deep down below the mountains!
