Jonah 2 - Easy To Read Version

While Jonah was in the fish’s stomach, he prayed to the Lord his God. Jonah said,

“I was in very bad trouble.\par I called to the Lord for help,\par and he answered me!\par I was deep in the grave. {\cf2\super [8]} \par I cried to you, Lord,\par and you heard my voice!\par

“You threw me into the sea.\par Your powerful waves splashed over me.\par I went down, down into the deep sea.\par The water was all around me.\par

Then I thought,\par ‘Now I must go where you cannot see me.’\par But I continued looking to your holy temple {\cf2\super [9]} for help.\par

“The seawater closed over me.\par The water covered my mouth,\par and I could not breathe. {\cf2\super [10]} \par I went down, down into the deep sea.\par Seaweed wrapped around my head.\par

I was at the bottom of the sea,\par the place where mountains begin.\par I thought I was locked in this prison forever.\par But the Lord my God took me out\par of my grave!\par God, you gave me life again!\par

“My soul gave up all hope.\par But then I remembered the Lord.\par Lord, I prayed to you.\par And you heard my prayers in your holy temple. {\cf2\super [11]} \par

“Some people worship useless idols.\par But those statues never help them. {\cf2\super [12]} \par

Salvation comes only from the Lord!\par “Lord, I will give sacrifices to you,\par and I will praise and thank you.\par I will make special promises to you,\par and I will do the things I promise.”\par

Then the Lord spoke to the fish. And the fish vomited Jonah out of its stomach onto the dry land.
