People who know your name\par should trust you.\par Lord, if people come to you,\par you will not leave them without help.\par


People will not have to teach their neighbors and relatives to know the Lord. Why? Because all people, from the least important to the greatest, will know me.” This message is from the Lord. “I will forgive them for the bad things they did. I won’t remember their sins.”


One bad thing followed another.\par And lies followed lies.\par The people refused to know me.”\par The Lord said those things.\par


People of Israel, listen to the Lord’s message! The Lord will tell his argument against the people that live in this country. “People in this country don’t really know God. The people are not true and loyal to God.


The people of Israel have done many bad things. And those bad things keep them from coming back to their God. They are always thinking of ways to chase after other gods. They don’t know the Lord.


“My Father has given me all things. No person knows the Son—only the Father knows the Son. And no person knows the Father—only the Son knows the Father. And the only people that will know about the Father are those people the Son chooses to tell.


Joseph went to a town called Nazareth and lived there. And so the thing happened that God said through the prophets. {\cf2\super [32]} God said that \{the Christ\} would be called a Nazarene. {\cf2\super [33]}


Then Jesus said to all the people, “You came to get me with swords and clubs like I am a criminal. Every day I sat in the temple {\cf2\super [411]} area teaching. You did not arrest me there.


“My Father has given me all things. No person knows who the Son is—only the Father knows. And only the Son knows who the Father is. The only people that will know about the Father are those people the Son chooses to tell.”


Today your Savior was born in David’s town. He is Christ, {\cf2\super [29]} the Lord.


Joseph and Mary finished doing all the things that the law of the Lord commanded. Then they went home to Nazareth, their own town in Galilee.


So Joseph left Nazareth, a town in Galilee. He went to the town of Bethlehem in Judea. This town was known as the town of David. {\cf2\super [28]} Joseph went there because he was from the family of David.


Jesus went with them to Nazareth. He obeyed everything his parents said. His mother was still thinking about all these things.


But Nathanael said to Philip, “Nazareth! Can anything good come from Nazareth?”


So why do you say that I am saying things that are against God because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? I am the one God chose and sent into the world.


Why? Because the things I taught were not from myself. The Father (God) who sent me told me what to say and what to teach.


Do you truly believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The things I have told you don’t come from me. The Father lives in me, and he is doing his own work.


But the world must know that I love the Father. So I do exactly what the Father told me to do.


People will do these things because they have not known the Father, and they have not known me.


Father, you are the One who is good. The world does not know you, but I know you. And these people know that you sent me.


And this is eternal life: that people can know you, the only true God, and that people can know Jesus Christ, the One you sent.


One night Nicodemus came to Jesus. Nicodemus said, “Teacher, we know that you are a teacher sent from God. No person can do these miracles {\cf2\super [46]} that you do without God’s help.”


The person that accepts what he (Jesus) says has given proof that God speaks the truth.


But there is another person that tells people about me. And I know that the things he says about me are true.


I have come from my Father—I speak for him. But you don’t accept me. But when another person comes speaking only for himself, you will accept him.


The Jews said, “This is Jesus. We know his father and mother. Jesus is only Joseph’s son. How can he say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”


The festival {\cf2\super [102]} was about half finished. Then Jesus went to the temple {\cf2\super [103]} area and began to teach.


Jesus answered, “Yes, I am saying these things about myself. But people can believe these things I say. Why? Because I know where I came from. And I know where I am going. But you don’t know where I came from or where I am going.


But if I judge, my judging is true. Why? Because when I judge I am not alone. The Father who sent me is with me.


The people asked, “Where is your father?”


I have many things I could say to judge you. But I tell people only the things I have heard from the One that sent me. And he speaks the truth.”


Jesus said to those Jews, “If God were really your Father, then you would love me. I came from God, and now I am here. I did not come by my own authority. God sent me.


We know that God spoke to Moses. But we don’t even know where this man (Jesus) comes from!”


I was going through your city and I saw the things you worship. I found an altar that had these words written on it: ‘TO the god who is not known.’ You worship a god that you don’t know. This is the God I am telling you about!


People did not think it was important to have a true knowledge of God. So God left them and allowed those people to have their own worthless thinking. And so those people do the things that they should not do.


No! God will continue to be true even when every person is false. Like the Scriptures {\cf2\super [26]} say:


But if you can believe God, then you can believe that what we tell you is never both “Yes” and “No.”


God once said, “The light will shine out of the darkness!” And this is the same God who made his light shine in our hearts. He gave us light by letting us know the glory of God that is in the face of Christ.


That faith and that knowledge come from our hope for life forever. God promised that life to us before time began—and God does not lie.


Those two things cannot change. God cannot lie when he says something and he cannot lie when he makes a vow. So those things give great comfort to us who came to God for safety. Those two things give us comfort and strength to continue in the hope that God gives us.


When I come, I will talk about what Diotrephes is doing. He lies and says evil things about us. But that is not all he does! He refuses to help those brothers \{who are working to serve Christ\}. Diotrephes also stops those people who want to help the brothers. He makes those people leave the church (group of believers).


Eli’s sons were bad men. They did not care about the Lord.
