Joseph went to a town called Nazareth and lived there. And so the thing happened that God said through the prophets. {\cf2\super [32]} God said that \{the Christ\} would be called a Nazarene. {\cf2\super [33]}


The soldiers put a sign above Jesus’ head with the charge against him written on it. The sign said: “THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”


There was a sign with the charge against Jesus written on it. The sign said: “THE king of the jews.”


The people told him, “Jesus, the one from Nazareth, is coming here.”


(At the top of the cross these words were written: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”)


Then Nathanael said to Jesus, “Teacher, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel (God’s people).”


Then Pilate went back inside the palace. Pilate called Jesus to him. He asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”


After this, Pilate tried to let Jesus go free. But the Jewish leaders yelled, “Any person who makes himself a king is against Caesar. {\cf2\super [240]} So if you let this man (Jesus) go free, that means you are not Caesar’s friend.”


It was now almost noon on Preparation day {\cf2\super [242]} of Passover {\cf2\super [243]} week. Pilate said to the Jews, “Here is your king!”


The leading Jewish priests said to Pilate, “Don’t write, ‘The King of the Jews.’ But write, ‘This man said, I am the King of the Jews.’”


The soldiers came to Jesus many times and said, “Hello, O king of the Jews!” They hit Jesus in the face.


“\{When I was a Pharisee {\cf2\super [489]} \}, even I thought I should do many things against the name of Jesus from Nazareth.


But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold, but I do have something else I can give you: By the power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth—stand up and walk!”
