May the Lord protect his people.\par May the Lord bless his people with peace.\par


You are my place of safety!\par You are the strong tower\par protecting me from my enemies.\par


There is much strength in the name of the Lord. It is like a strong tower. Good people can run to him and be safe.


Those people will live safely in high places. They will be protected in high rock fortresses. Those people will always have food and water.


The Lord will go out like a strong soldier.\par He will be like a man ready to fight a war.\par He will become very excited.\par He will cry out and shout loudly,\par and he will defeat his enemies.\par


\{“My servant,\} I will give you the words I want you to say. And I will cover you with my hands and protect you. I will use you to make the new heaven and earth. I will use you to tell Israel, ‘You are my people.’”


Lord, you are my strength\par and my protection.\par You are a safe place to run to\par in time of trouble.\par The nations will come to you\par from all around the world.\par They will say,\par “Our fathers had false gods.\par They worshiped those worthless idols,\par but those idols did not help them at all.”\par


Lord, don’t ruin me.\par I depend on you in times of trouble.\par


In my anger and strong emotions I make this promise: I promise that there will be a strong earthquake in the land of Israel.


I will roar like a lion.\par I will roar, and my children will come\par and follow me.\par My children will come from the west,\par shaking with fear.\par


Amos said:\par The Lord will shout like a lion in Zion. {\cf2\super [2]} \par His loud voice will roar from Jerusalem.\par And the green pastures of the shepherds will turn brown and die.\par Even Mount Carmel {\cf2\super [3]} will become dry.\par


If a lion roars, people will be scared. If the Lord speaks, prophets will prophesy. {\cf2\super [43]}


The Lord is good.\par He is a safe place to go to\par in times of trouble.\par He takes care of the people who\par trust him.\par


Why? Because the Lord All-Powerful is saying these things! In just a little while, I will once again shake things up! I will shake heaven and earth. And I will shake the sea and the dry land!


I will shake up the nations, and they will come to you with wealth from every nation. And then I will fill this temple {\cf2\super [7]} with glory. The Lord All-Powerful is saying these things!


The Lord will make his people strong. And they will live for him and his name. The Lord said these things.


I will make Judah’s family strong. I will help Joseph’s family win the war. I will bring them back safe and sound. I will comfort them. It will be like I never left them. I am the Lord their God, and I will help them.


Prisoners, go home!\par Now you have something to hope for.\par I am telling you now,\par I am coming back to you!\par


When he spoke before, his voice shook the earth. But now he has promised, “Once again I will shake the earth. But I will also shake heaven.” {\cf2\super [171]}


At that same time there was a great earthquake. One tenth of the city was destroyed. And 7,000 people were killed in the earthquake. The people that did not die were very afraid. They gave glory to the God of heaven.


Then God’s temple {\cf2\super [89]} in heaven was opened. The Holy Box of the Agreement {\cf2\super [90]} \{that God gave to his people\} could be seen in his temple. Then there were flashes of lightning, noises, thunder, an earthquake, and a great hailstorm.


Then there were flashes of lightning, noises, thunder, and a big earthquake. This was the worst earthquake that has ever happened since people have been on earth.


The Lord is the God of Israel. The Lord lives forever. The Lord does not lie or change his mind. The Lord is not like a man who changes his mind.”
