My life is almost finished.\par So leave me alone!\par Let me enjoy the little time I have left,\par


God, you say bitter things against me.\par Are you making me suffer\par for the sins I did when I was young.\par


“Truly, God lives.\par And just as truly as God lives,\par He has truly been unfair with me.\par God All-Powerful made my life bitter.\par


“Why must a suffering person\par continue to live?\par Why give life to a person\par whose soul is bitter?\par


God, you never look away from me.\par You won’t leave me alone for a second.\par


Lord, leave me alone {\cf2\super [242]} \par and let me be happy\par before I am dead and gone.\par


God, you were angry at me,\par and you punished me.\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [501]})\i0 \par


The people of Judah lived their own way.\par They were stubborn.\par They followed the false god Baal. {\cf2\super [76]} \par Their fathers taught them to follow\par those false gods.”\par


The Lord gave me this poison (punishment)\par to drink.\par He filled me with this bitter drink.\par


The Lord turned his hand against me.\par He did this again and again, all day.\par


We don’t enjoy punishment when we get it. Being punished is painful. But later, after we have learned from being punished, we have peace, because we start living right.


But Naomi told the people, “Don’t call me Naomi, [4] call me Marah. [5] Use this name because {God} All-Powerful has made my life very sad.
