“Poor people are like wild donkeys\par wandering in the desert\par searching for food.\par They get up early in the morning\par to search for food.\par They work late into the evening\par getting food for their children.\par


Wild donkeys laugh at the noisy towns.\par And no person can control them.\par


God changed the fertile land\par and it became worthless salty land.\par Why? Because of the bad people\par who were living in that place.\par


Wild donkeys stand on the bare hills.\par They sniff the wind like jackals. {\cf2\super [121]} \par But their eyes can’t find any food,\par because there are no plants to eat.\par


Those people are like a bush in a desert.\par That bush is in a land where no people live.\par That bush is in a hot and dry land.\par That bush is in a bad soil.\par That bush does not know\par about the good things that God can give.\par


You are like a wild donkey\par that lives in the desert.\par At mating time, she sniffs (smells)\par the wind.\par No person can bring her back\par at the time she is in heat.\par At mating time, every male that wants her\par will get her.\par It is easy to find her.\par


But the swamps and small areas of wet land will not become fresh. They will be left for salt.


Ephraim {\cf2\super [79]} went to his ‘lovers.’\par Like a wild donkey,\par he wandered off to Assyria.\par


All the land will be useless—destroyed by burning sulfur and covered with salt. The land will have nothing planted in it. Nothing will be growing—not even weeds. The land will be destroyed like Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, the cities the Lord destroyed when he was very angry.
