And the evil people say,\par ‘Who is God All-Powerful?\par We don’t need to serve him!\par It won’t help to pray to him!’\par


Then Eliphaz from Teman answered:


Does your living right help God? No!\par Does God All-Powerful gain anything\par if you follow him? No!\par


God, why is man so important to you?\par Why should you honor him?\par Why do you even notice him?\par


I said to the Lord,\par “Lord, you are my Master.\par Every good thing I have comes from you.” {\cf2\super [84]} \par


If you become wise, then you have become wise for your own good. But if you become proud and make fun of other people, then only you are to blame for your trouble.


If your right eye makes you sin, then take it out and throw it away. It is better to lose one part of your body than to have your whole body thrown into hell.


It is the same with you. When you do all the things you are told to do, you should say, ‘We are not worthy of any special thanks. We have only done the work we should do.’”


This God is the One who gives life, breath, and everything else to people. He does not need any help from people. God has everything he needs.


So obey the laws and commands of the Lord that I am giving you today. These laws and commands are for your own good.
