He will have nothing left in his house.\par Why? Burning sulfur will be scattered\par all through his home.\par


Maybe you loaned a brother some money\par and forced him to give you something\par to prove he would pay it back.\par Maybe you took some poor man’s clothes\par as collateral {\cf2\super [34]} for a loan.\par Maybe you did that for no reason.\par


“If \{bad\} people are being hurt,\par then they will cry out for help.\par They go to powerful people\par and beg them to help them.\par


Lord, protect the children without parents.\par Don’t let sad people suffer more troubles.\par Make bad people too afraid to stay here.\par


But the Lord says:\par “Bad people stole from the poor people.\par They took things from helpless people.\par But now I will stand and defend those weary (tired) people.”\par


The Lord’s words are true and pure\par like silver melted in a hot fire.\par They are pure like silver that was melted and made pure seven times.\par


The person that causes trouble for poor people shows that he does not respect God—God made both people. But if a person is kind to poor people, then he shows honor to God.


Again I saw that many people are treated badly. I saw their tears. And I saw that there was no one to comfort those sad people. I saw cruel people had all the power. And I saw that there was no one to comfort the people they hurt.


In some country you might see poor people that are forced to work very hard. You might see that this is not fair to the poor people. It is against the rights of the poor people. But don’t be surprised! The ruler that forces those people to work has another ruler that forces him. And there is still another ruler that forces both of these rulers.


The Lord does not like these things:\par He does not like for someone to crush\par all the prisoners of the earth under his feet.\par


“The common people take advantage of each other. They cheat and steal from each other. They get rich by taking advantage of poor helpless beggars. And they really cheat the foreigners-they are not fair to them at all!


You take unfair taxes {\cf2\super [69]} from poor people.\par You take loads of wheat from them.\par You build fancy houses with cut stone.\par But you will not live in those houses.\par You plant beautiful fields of grapes.\par But you will not drink the wine from them.\par


Why? Because I know about your many sins.\par You have done some really bad things:\par You hurt people that do right.\par You accept money to do wrong.\par You keep justice from the poor people in court.\par


They want fields,\par so they take them.\par They want houses,\par so they take them.\par They cheat a man\par and take his house.\par They cheat a man\par and take his land from him.\par


You have taken nice houses\par away from the women of my people.\par You have taken my wealth\par away from their small children forever.\par


“A nation that you don’t know will take all your crops and all the things you worked for. People will treat you badly and abuse you.


Yes, you must show mercy to other people. If you do not show mercy, then God will not show mercy to you when he judges you. But the person who shows mercy can stand without fear when he is judged.


But you show no respect to the poor man. And you know that the rich people are the people who always try to control your lives. And they are the people who take you to court.


People worked in your fields, but you did not pay them. Those people are crying out against you. Those people harvested your crops. Now the Lord (God) of heaven’s armies {\cf2\super [24]} has heard the things they are shouting.
