\{These wise people said,\}\par An evil person suffers all his life.\par A cruel person suffers all his\par numbered years.\par


Every noise scares him.\par His enemy will attack him\par when he thinks he is safe.\par


He wanders here and there,\par but his body will be food for the vultures.\par He knows that his death {\cf2\super [28]} is very near.\par


Why? Because the evil person refuses to obey God—\par He shakes his fist at God,\par and tries to defeat God All-Powerful.\par


God’s anger burns against me.\par He calls me his enemy.\par


God sends his army to attack me.\par They build attack towers around me.\par They camp around my tent.\par


I have had troubles and hard times.\par But I enjoy your commands.\par


Great trouble will come to you like a bad storm. Problems will hit you like a strong wind. Your troubles and sadness will be a very great burden on you.


These things will make you poor very quickly. You will have nothing, as if a thief broke in and took everything away.


But he sleeps and sleeps. And he becomes poorer and poorer. Soon he will have nothing! It will be like a robber has come and stolen everything.


Jeremiah, also say this to Jehoiakim king of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord says: Jehoiakim, you burned that scroll. You said, “Why did Jeremiah write that the king of Babylon will surely come and destroy this land? Why did he say that the king of Babylon will destroy both men and animals in this land?”


God will give trouble and suffering to every person that does evil—to the Jews first and also to the non-Jews.
