before I go to the place\par that no person comes back from,\par the place of darkness and death.\par


Then Zophar from Naamah answered Job and said,


“I might hope for the grave\par to be my new home.\par I might hope to make my bed\par in the dark grave.\par


If I had died when I was born,\par I would be at peace now.\par I wish I were asleep and at rest\par


I wish that day had stayed dark—\par as dark as death.\par I wish clouds would hide that day.\par I wish black clouds could\par scare away the light\par from the day I was born.\par


There is no place dark enough\par for evil people to hide from God.\par


Job, have you ever seen the gates\par leading to the world of the dead?\par Have you ever seen the gates\par leading to that dark place of death?\par


Even if I walk through a valley\par as dark as the grave, {\cf2\super [140]} \par I will not be afraid of any danger.\par Why? Because you are with me, Lord.\par Your rod and staff {\cf2\super [141]} comfort me.\par


But, God, you crushed us in this place\par where jackals {\cf2\super [268]} live.\par You left us in this place\par as dark as death.\par


Dead people lying in darkness\par can’t see the amazing things you do.\par Dead people in the World of the Forgotten\par can’t talk about your goodness.\par


Lord, I am asking you to help me!\par Early each morning I pray to you.\par


Every time you find work to do, do it the best you can. In the grave there is no work. There is no thinking, no knowledge, and there is no wisdom. And we are all going to that \{place of death\}.


Honor the Lord your God.\par Praise him or he will bring darkness.\par Praise him before you fall on the dark hills.\par You people of Judah are hoping for light.\par But the Lord will turn the light into thick darkness.\par The Lord will change the light into a very thick darkness.\par


Your ancestors did not say,\par ‘The Lord brought us from Egypt.\par The Lord led us through the desert.\par The Lord led us through a dry\par and rocky land.\par The Lord led us through a dark\par and dangerous land.\par No people live there.\par People don’t even travel through\par that land.\par But the Lord led us through that land.\par So where is the Lord now?’\par


Also, there is a big pit (hole) between you and us. No person can cross over to help you. And no person can leave there and come here.’
