Those proud people are wicked,\par but they are rich and getting richer.\par


Women, you are calm now, but you should be afraid! Women, you feel safe now, but you should be worried! Take off your nice clothes and put on your clothes of sadness. Wrap those clothes around your waist.


Some of you women are calm now. You feel safe. But you should stand and listen to the words I say.


Deserts and cities, villages of Kedar, {\cf2\super [382]} \par praise the Lord!\par People living in Sela, sing for joy!\par Sing from the top of your mountain.\par


So now, ‘nice lady’ listen to me!\par You feel safe and you tell yourself,\par ‘I am the only important person.\par No one else is important like me.\par I will never be a widow.\par I will always have children.’\par


“Moab has never known trouble.\par Moab is like wine left to settle.\par Moab has never been poured\par from one jar to another.\par He has not been taken into captivity.\par So he tastes like he did before.\par And his smell has not changed.”\par

You will say, ‘I will go attack that country that has towns without walls (Israel). Those people live in peace. They think they are safe. There are not any walls around the cities to protect them. They don’t have any locks on their gates—they don’t even have gates!


\{God said,\} “I will send fire against Magog and those people living along the coast. They think they are safe, but they will know that I am the Lord.


So rule your people with your rod.\par Rule the flock of people\par that belongs to you.\par That flock lives alone in the woods,\par and up on Mount Carmel.\par That flock lives in Bashan and Gilead\par like they did in time past.\par


The Lord said these things \{to Judah\}:\par “The people of Assyria are at full strength.\par They have many soldiers.\par But they will all be cut down.\par They will all be finished.\par My people, I made you suffer.\par But I will make you suffer no more.\par


Nineveh is so proud now. It is such a happy city. The people think they are safe. They think Nineveh is the greatest place in the world. But that city will be destroyed! It will be an empty place where only wild animals go to rest. People that pass that place will whistle and shake their heads \{when they see how badly the city was destroyed\}.


I see those people from the mountain. I see them from the high hills. Those people live alone. They are not part of another nation.


So Israel will live in safety, Jacob’s well belongs to them. They will get a land of grain and wine. And that land will get plenty of rain.
