Are you the one who told the eagle {\cf2\super [94]} \par to fly high into the sky.\par Did you tell him to build his nest\par high in the mountains?\par


If a person is proud, then he is in danger of destruction. If a person thinks he is better than other people, then he is in danger of defeat.


The tongue can speak words that bring life or death. And people who love to talk must be ready to accept what it brings.


If a person thinks he is better than other people, then that will destroy him. But if a person is humble, then other people will respect him.


With my own hands I have taken the riches of all these people—like a person taking eggs from a bird’s nest. A bird often leaves its nest and eggs. And there is nothing to protect the nest. There is no bird to chirp and fight with its wings and beak. So people take the eggs. \{In the same way,\} there was no person to stop me from taking all the people on earth.”


Then the people will hide in cracks in the rocks. They will do this because they will be afraid of the Lord and his great power. This will happen when the Lord stands to make the earth shake.


But the Lord says,\par “The prisoners will escape.\par Someone will take those prisoners\par away from the strong soldier.\par \{How will this happen?\}\par I will fight your fights.\par I will save your children.\par


“You can’t say,\par ‘We are good soldiers.\par We are brave men in battle.’\par


Edom, I will make you become not important.\par Every person will hate you.\par


“Call for the men that shoot arrows.\par Tell them to attack Babylon.\par Tell them to surround the city.\par Don’t let anyone escape.\par Pay her back for the bad things she has done.\par Do to her what she has done\par to other nations.\par Babylon did not respect the Lord.\par Babylon was very rude\par to the Holy One of Israel.\par So punish Babylon.\par


Babylon might grow\par until she touches the sky.\par Babylon might make her forts strong.\par But I will send people\par to fight against that city.\par And those people will destroy her.”\par The Lord said these things.\par


“Edom, {\cf2\super [3]} I will make you the smallest nation.\par Everyone will hate you very much.\par


Yes, it will be very bad for the person that becomes rich by doing wrong. That person does those things to live in a safe place. He thinks that he can stop other people from stealing from him. \{But bad things will happen to him.\}


And I did not accept {\cf2\super [2]} Esau. I destroyed Esau’s hill-country. {\cf2\super [3]} Esau’s country was destroyed, and now only wild dogs {\cf2\super [4]} live there.”
