Jeremiah 43:12 - Easy To Read Version

12 Nebuchadnezzar will start a fire in the temples of the false gods of Egypt. He will burn those temples and he will take those idols away. A shepherd picks the bugs and stickers off of his clothes to make them clean. In the same way, Nebuchadnezzar will pick Egypt clean. Then he will safely leave Egypt.

Then put one of the king’s most important leaders in charge of the robe and the horse. And let that leader put the robe on the man the king wants to honor. And then let him lead him on the horse through the city streets. As he leads him, let him announce, ‘This is done for the man the king wants to honor!’”


If you are like God,\par then you can be proud.\par If you are like God\par then you can wear glory and honor\par like clothes.\par


You wear light like a person wears a robe.\par You spread the skies like a curtain.\par


I will clothe the priests with salvation.\par And my followers will be very happy here.\par


I will cover David’s enemies in shame.\par But I will make David’s kingdom grow.”\par


“Tonight I will go through Egypt and kill every firstborn [65] man and animal in Egypt. In this way, I will judge all the gods of Egypt. I {will show that I} am the Lord.


The sad message about Egypt: Look! The Lord is coming on a fast cloud. The Lord will enter Egypt, and all the false gods of Egypt will shake \{with fear. Egypt was brave\}, but that courage will melt away like hot wax.


Look! They are coming! I see rows of men and horse soldiers.”


Bel {\cf2\super [407]} and Nebo, {\cf2\super [408]} will bow down before me. \{Those false gods are only statues.\} Men put those statues on the backs of animals—those statues are only heavy burdens that must be carried. The false gods do nothing but make people tired.


Those false gods will all bow down—they will all fall. Those false gods can’t escape—they will all be carried away like prisoners.


Look up! Look all around you!\par All of your children are gathering together and coming to you.\par


Wake up! Wake up Zion! {\cf2\super [420]} \par Dress yourself!\par Put on your strength!\par Holy Jerusalem, stand up!\par People that have not agreed\par to follow God {\cf2\super [421]} \par will not enter you again.\par Those people are not pure and clean.\par

“Then your enemies will come to you and care for your sheep. The children of your enemies will work in your fields and in your gardens.


\{The Lord says,\}\par “Tell this message to those people:\par ‘Those false gods did not make\par heaven and earth.\par And those false gods will be destroyed\par and disappear from heaven and earth.’” {\cf2\super [81]} \par


Those idols are worth nothing.\par They are something to make fun of.\par In the time of judgment,\par those idols will be destroyed.\par


I also made Pharaoh king of Egypt drink from the cup. I made his officials, his important leaders, and all his people drink from the cup of the Lord’s anger.


Nebuchadnezzar will destroy the memorial stones {\cf2\super [351]} that are in the temple of the Sun God {\cf2\super [352]} in Egypt. And he will burn down the temples of the false gods of Egypt.’”


The Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: “Very soon I will punish Amon, {\cf2\super [369]} the god of Thebes. And I will punish Pharaoh, Egypt, and her gods. I will punish the kings of Egypt. And I will punish the people that depend on Pharaoh.


You trust in the things you made\par and in your wealth.\par So you will be captured.\par The god Chemosh {\cf2\super [379]} \par will be taken into captivity.\par And his priests and officials\par will be taken with him.\par


“I will set the walls of Damascus on fire.\par The fire will completely burn up\par the strong forts of Ben-Hadad.” {\cf2\super [403]} \par


“Announce this to all nations!\par Lift up a flag and announce the message!\par Speak the whole message and say,\par ‘The nation of Babylon will be captured.\par The god Bel {\cf2\super [407]} will be put to shame.\par The god Marduk {\cf2\super [408]} will be very afraid.\par Babylon’s idols will be put to shame.\par Her idol gods will be filled with terror.’\par


I will punish the false god Bel {\cf2\super [428]} in Babylon.\par I will make him vomit out the people\par that he swallowed.\par The wall around Babylon will fall.\par And other nations will stop coming\par to Babylon.\par


No person or animal will pass through Egypt. Nothing will pass through or settle there for 40 years.


So the Lord my Master says these things, “I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. And Nebuchadnezzar will carry away Egypt’s people. Nebuchadnezzar will take the many valuable things in Egypt. This will be the pay for Nebuchadnezzar’s army.


The Lord my Master says these things:\par “I will also destroy the idols {\cf2\super [247]} in Egypt.\par I will take the statues away from Memphis.\par There won’t be a leader anymore\par in the land of Egypt,\par And I will put fear in the land of Egypt.\par


He will take their idol gods. He will take their metal idols and their expensive things made from silver and gold. He will take those things away to Egypt. Then he will not bother the northern king for a few years.


Those people will be afraid of the Lord! Why? Because the Lord will destroy their gods. Then all the people in all the faraway lands will worship the Lord.


The night {\cf2\super [139]} is almost finished. The day {\cf2\super [140]} is almost here. So we should stop doing things that belong to darkness (sin). We should prepare ourselves to fight evil with the weapons that belong to the light (good).


You must become a new person, made to be like God—made to be truly good and holy. {\cf2\super [35]}


Wear the full armor (protection) of God. Wear God’s armor so that you can fight against the devil’s evil tricks.


God has chosen you and made you his holy people. {\cf2\super [18]} He loves you. So always do these things: Show mercy to people; be kind, humble, gentle, and patient.


Do all these things; but most important, love each other. Love is the thing that holds you all together in perfect unity.
