10 Then I, Jeremiah, said, “Lord my Master, you have really tricked the people of Judah and Jerusalem. You said to them, ‘You will have peace.’ But now the sword is pointing at their throats!”

If you don’t do this, then I will use my full power against you, your officials, and your people. Then you will know that there is no god in the world like me.


They tell the prophets, “Don’t see dreams {\cf2\super [278]} about things we should do! Don’t tell us the truth! Say nice things to us and make us feel good! See only good things for us!


I will protect this city and save it.\par I will do this for myself\par and for my servant David.”\par


Lord, why are you pushing us\par away from you?\par Why are you making it hard\par for us to follow you?\par Come back to us Lord!\par We are your servants.\par Come to us and help us!\par Our families belong to you.\par


Then Jeremiah said, “But Lord All-Powerful, I don’t know how to speak. I am only a boy.”


Some of the people hate\par the real messages from the Lord.\par So those prophets give a different message\par to those people.\par They say,\par ‘You will have peace.’\par Some of the people are very stubborn.\par They do only the things they want to do.\par So those prophets say,\par ‘Nothing bad will happen to you!’\par


“Lord God, you made the skies and the earth. You made them with your great power. There is nothing too wonderful for you to do.


“The way you lived and the things you did\par brought this trouble to you.\par It is your evil that made your life so hard.\par Your evil life brought the pain\par that hurts deep in your heart.”\par


“Those people have lied about the Lord.\par They have said,\par ‘The Lord will not do anything to us.\par Nothing bad will happen to us.\par We will never see an army attack us.\par We will never starve.’\par


My people have been hurt very badly.\par The prophets and priests\par should bandage those wounds.\par But they treat those wounds\par like they are only a small scratch.\par They say,\par ‘It is all right, everything is fine!’\par But it is not all right!\par

As soon as I finished speaking for God, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died! I fell to the ground. I bowed with my face touching the ground and said, “Oh, Lord my Master, you are going to completely destroy all the survivors of Israel!”


People were full of sin, wanting only to do evil things. So God left them and let them go their sinful way. And so they became full of sexual sins, using their bodies wrongly with each other.


Because people did those things, God left them and let them do the shameful things they wanted to do. Women stopped having natural sex with men. They started having sex with other women.


People did not think it was important to have a true knowledge of God. So God left them and allowed those people to have their own worthless thinking. And so those people do the things that they should not do.
