Nebuchadnezzar took the people that were still alive back to Babylon and forced them to be slaves. Those people stayed in Babylon as slaves until the Persian kingdom defeated the kingdom of Babylon.


I will make my vineyard {\cf2\super [47]} an empty field.\par No person will care for the plants.\par No person will work in the field.\par Weeds and thorns will grow there.\par I will command the clouds\par not to rain on the field.”\par


“But when the 70 years have passed, I will punish the king of Babylon. I will punish the nation of Babylon.” This message is from the Lord. “I will punish the land of the Babylonians for their sins. I will make that land a desert forever.


The Lord is like a dangerous lion\par leaving his cave.\par The Lord is angry!\par And that anger will hurt those people.\par Their country will be an empty desert.\par


Those things will be brought to Babylon until the day comes when I go to get them.” This message is from the Lord. “Then I will bring those things back. I will put those things back in this place.”


All nations will serve Nebuchadnezzar and his son and his grandson. Then the time will come for Babylon to be defeated. Many nations and great kings will make Babylon their servant.


The Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: ‘I will put a yoke of iron on the necks of all these nations. I will do that to make them serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. And they will be slaves to him. I will even give Nebuchadnezzar control over the wild animals.’”


This is what the Lord says: “Babylon will be powerful for 70 years. After that time, I will come to you people that are living in Babylon. I will keep my good promise to bring you back to Jerusalem.


I looked, and the good land\par had become a desert.\par All the cities in that land were destroyed.\par The Lord caused this.\par The Lord and his great anger caused this.\par


The Lord says these things:\par “The whole country will be ruined.\par (But I will not completely destroy the land.)\par


Then say to those men of Judah that are watching you: ‘This is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: I will send for Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, to come here. He is my servant. And I will set his throne over these stones I have buried here. Nebuchadnezzar will spread his canopy {\cf2\super [350]} above these stones.


Then the Lord could not be patient with you any longer. The Lord hated the terrible things you did. So the Lord made your country an empty desert. No person lives there now. Other people say bad things about that country.


You must tell these things to the common people. You must say, ‘The Lord our Master says these things to the people living in Jerusalem and in the other parts of Israel. You people will be very worried while you eat your food. You will be terrified while you drink your water. Why? Because all the things in your country will be destroyed! The enemy will be very cruel to all the people living there.


No person or animal will pass through Egypt. Nothing will pass through or settle there for 40 years.


\{God said,\} “\{Jerusalem,\} I will destroy you—you will be nothing but a pile of rocks. The people around you will make fun of you. Every person that walks by will make fun of you.


During the first year that Darius was king, I, Daniel, was reading some books. In the books, I saw that the Lord told Jeremiah how many years would pass before Jerusalem would be built again. The Lord said 70 years would pass.


I will make your land empty. And your enemies that come to live there will be shocked at it.


The land was ruined by the people\par that lived there and by what they did.\par


Then the Lord’s angel said, “Lord, how long before you comfort Jerusalem and the cities of Judah? You have shown your anger at these cities for 70 years now.”


“Tell the priests and the other people in this country these things: For seventy years you fasted and showed your sadness in the fifth month and in the seventh month. But was that fasting really for me? No!
