7 But I, the Lord, will bring the king of Assyria and all his power against you. They will come like a powerful flood of water from the Euphrates River. It will be like water rising up and over the river banks.

“Understand what I am telling you. I will bring a great flood of water on the earth. I will destroy all living things that live under heaven. Everything on the earth will die.


“So the Lord says this about the king of Assyria:


and from the other people that the great and powerful Ashurbanipal moved to the city of Samaria and other places in the country west of the Euphrates River.


There is a river whose streams\par bring happiness to God’s city,\par to the holy city of God Most High.\par


Let his kingdom grow from sea to sea,\par from the \{Euphrates\} River\par to the faraway places on earth. {\cf2\super [411]} \par


\{Assyria {\cf2\super [119]} thinks he is great.\} But the Lord All-Powerful will send a terrible disease against Assyria. Assyria will lose his wealth and power like a sick man loses weight. Then Assyria’s glory will be destroyed. It will be like a fire burning until everything is gone.


\{God will say,\} “I will use Assyria {\cf2\super [113]} like a stick. In anger, I will use Assyria to punish Israel.


The Lord became angry and divided the sea of Egypt. \{In the same way,\} the Lord will wave his arm over the Euphrates River. He will hit the river, and the river will divide into seven small rivers. The small rivers will not be deep—people will be able to walk across those rivers with their shoes on.


You people say, “We have made an agreement with death. We have a contract with Sheol—\{the place of death\}. So we will not be punished. Punishment will pass us without hurting us. We will hide behind our tricks and lies.”


“\{People use\} a measuring line with a weight \{to show a wall is straight. In the same way\}, I will use justice and goodness \{to show what is right\}.


Look, my Master has a person\par that is strong and brave.\par That person will come into the country\par like a storm of hail and rain.\par He will come like a storm into the country.\par He will be like a powerful river of water\par flooding the country.\par He will throw that crown (Samaria)\par down to the ground.\par


When you have troubles, I am with you. When you cross rivers, you will not be hurt. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not hurt you.


Then people in the west\par will fear and respect the Lord’s name.\par People in the east\par will fear and respect His Glory. {\cf2\super [449]} \par The Lord will come quickly like\par a fast flowing river blown by\par a powerful wind from the Lord.\par


But \{you should be afraid of the Lord. Why? Because\} the Lord will bring some troubled times to you. Those troubles will come to your people and to the people of your father’s family. \{What will God do?\} God will bring the king of Assyria {\cf2\super [89]} to fight against you.


The Lord will use Assyria to punish Judah. Assyria will be hired and used like a razor. It will be like the Lord is shaving the hair from Judah’s head and legs. It will be like the Lord is shaving off Judah’s beard. {\cf2\super [91]}


The Lord says:\par “Look, \{the enemy soldiers\par are meeting together\} in the north. {\cf2\super [372]} \par They will come like a fast river\par spilling over its banks.\par They will cover the whole country\par like a flood.\par They will cover the towns\par and the people living in them.\par Everyone living in that country\par will cry for help.\par


The sea will rise over Babylon.\par Its roaring waves will cover her.\par


The Lord my Master says these things, “\{Tyre, I will destroy you\} and you will become an old, empty city. No one will live there. I will cause the sea to flow over you. The great sea will cover you.


“‘The northern king’s sons will prepare for war. They will get a large army together. That army will move through the land very quickly, like a powerful flood. That army will fight all the way to the strong fort of the southern king.


He will defeat large and powerful armies. He will even defeat the Leader with the Agreement.


After the 62 weeks, {\cf2\super [112]} the chosen person will be killed. {\cf2\super [113]} He will be gone. {\cf2\super [114]} Then the people of the future leader will destroy the city and the holy place. That end will come like a flood. War will continue until the end. God has ordered that place to be completely destroyed.


The whole land will shake\par because of those things.\par Every person that lives in the land\par will cry for people that died.\par The whole land will rise and fall\par like the Nile River in Egypt.\par The land will be tossed around.”\par


My Master, the Lord All-Powerful,\par will touch the land,\par and the land will melt.\par Then all the people that live in the land\par will cry for the dead people.\par The land will rise and fall\par like the Nile River in Egypt.\par


Samaria’s {\cf2\super [13]} wound can’t be healed.\par Her disease (sin) has spread to Judah.\par It has reached the city gate of my people.\par It has spread all the way to Jerusalem.\par


Then \{the Ruler of Israel\} will stand\par in the power of the Lord and\par in the wonderful name\par of the Lord his God\par and feed \{the flock\}.\par They will live \{in peace\}\par because at that time, his greatness\par will reach to the ends of the earth. {\cf2\super [62]} \par


There will be peace.\par Yes, the Assyrian army\par will come into our country\par and trample our large buildings.\par But the Ruler of Israel {\cf2\super [63]} will choose\par seven shepherds and eight leaders. {\cf2\super [64]} \par


But he will destroy completely his enemies.\par He will wash them away like a flood.\par He will chase his enemies\par into the darkness.\par


He is like a man building a house. He digs deep and builds his house on rock. The floods come, and the water tries to wash the house away. But the flood cannot move the house, because the house was built well (strong).


Then the angel said to me, “You saw the water where the prostitute {\cf2\super [128]} sits. These waters are the many peoples, the different races, nations, and languages \{in the world\}.
