People are making evil plans against me.\par Those people don’t follow your teachings.\par


Wicked people will not win\par because they don’t follow your laws.\par


I hurt so much I can’t feel anything.\par My pounding heart makes me scream!\par


God, please listen to me and answer me.\par Let me speak to you\par and tell you what upsets me.\par


God will soon save his followers.\par We will soon live with honor on our land.\par


I cried like a dove.\par I cried like a bird.\par My eyes became tired,\par but I continued looking to the heavens.\par My Master, I am so depressed.\par Promise to help me.”\par


Your people became weak. They fell on the ground and lay there. Those people were lying on every street corner. They were like animals caught in a net. They were punished from the Lord’s anger until they could not accept any more punishment. When God said he would give them more punishment, they became very weak.


Justice has turned away from us.\par Fairness stands far away.\par Truth has fallen in the streets.\par Goodness is not allowed to enter the city.\par


Those people don’t know the way of peace. Those people don’t do what is right and fair. They are very crooked. And people who live like that will never have peace in their lives.


All fairness and goodness is gone.\par There is only darkness near us,\par so we must wait for the light.\par We hope for a bright light,\par but all we have is darkness.\par


We hoped to have peace,\par but nothing good has come.\par We hoped that he would forgive us,\par but only disaster has come.\par


If my head was filled with water,\par and if my eyes were a fountain of tears,\par I would cry day and night\par for my people that have been destroyed.\par


I thought I would never have peace again.\par I forgot about good things.\par


“But some of the people will escape. Those survivors will run to the mountains. But those people won’t be happy. They will be sad for all their sins. They will cry and make sad noises like doves.


They never call to me from their hearts.\par Yes, they cry on their beds.\par And they cut themselves\par when they ask for grain and\par new wine.\par But \{in their hearts,\} they have turned away\par from me.\par


The enemy takes away the queen.\par And her slave girls moan sadly\par like doves.\par They beat their breasts\par \{to show their sadness\}.\par


Nineveh is like a pool whose water\par is draining away.\par People yell,\par “Stop! Stop running away!”\par But it doesn’t do any good!\par
