Family of Jacob, you should follow the Lord.


Many of my people are now lost in Assyria. {\cf2\super [255]} Some of my people have run away to Egypt. But at that time, a great trumpet will be blown. And all those people will come back to Jerusalem. Those people will bow down before the Lord on that holy mountain.


A voice said,\par “Speak!”\par So the man said,\par “What should I say?”\par The voice said,\par “People \{don't live forever;\par they\} are all like grass.\par Their goodness is like a wildflower.\par


Your first father sinned. And your lawyers have done things against me.


The Lord says,\par “\{People of Israel, you say that I divorced\par your mother, Jerusalem.\}\par But where is the legal paper\par that proves I divorced her?\par My children, did I owe money to someone?\par Did I sell you to pay a debt?\par No! You were sold\par because of the bad things you did.\par Your mother (Jerusalem) was sent away\par because of the bad things you did.\par


The guards (prophets) are all blind.\par They don’t know what they are doing.\par They are like dogs that won’t bark.\par They lie on the ground and sleep.\par Oh, they love to sleep.\par


I could tell about your ‘good works’\par and all the ‘religious’ things you do;\par but those things are useless!\par


Why? Because we have done many, many wrong things against our God.\par Our sins show we are wrong.\par We know we are guilty of doing these things.\par


“Jeremiah, go and speak to the people of Jerusalem. Say to them:


In the ninth month of the fifth year that Jehoiakim was king, a fast {\cf2\super [303]} was announced. All the people that lived in the city of Jerusalem, and everyone that had come into Jerusalem from the towns of Judah were supposed to fast before the Lord.


I chose watchmen to watch over you.\par I told them,\par ‘Listen for the sound of the war trumpet.’\par But they said,\par ‘We will not listen!’\par


Your prophets saw visions for you.\par But their visions were only worthless lies.\par They didn’t preach against your sins.\par They didn’t try to make things better.\par They preached messages for you,\par but they were false messages\par that fooled you.\par


\{They are telling these lies.\} So you must speak to the people for me. Son of man, go prophesy to the people.”


“Son of man, {\cf2\super [115]} are the pieces of wood from a grapevine {\cf2\super [116]} any better than the little branches cut from trees in the forest? No!


Should you judge them? Will you judge them, Son of man? {\cf2\super [140]} You must tell them about the terrible things their fathers have done.


“Son of man, {\cf2\super [169]} will you judge the city of murderers (Jerusalem)? Will you tell her about all the terrible things she has done?


The Lord my Master said to me, “Son of man, {\cf2\super [191]} will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then tell them about the terrible things they have done.


If this guard sees the enemy soldiers coming, then he blows the trumpet and warns the people.


“Put the trumpet to your lips \{and give the warning\}. Be like an eagle over the Lord’s house. {\cf2\super [76]} The Israelites have broken my Agreement. They have not obeyed my law.


”Nineveh {\cf2\super [2]} is a big city. I have heard about the many evil things people are doing there. So go to that city and tell the people to stop doing those bad things.”


Tell the people these things. You have full authority (power). So use that authority to help the people and to correct them when they are wrong. And don’t let any person treat you like you are not important.


On the Lord’s day the Spirit {\cf2\super [9]} took control of me. I heard a loud voice behind me. It sounded like a trumpet.


Then I looked, and there before me was an open door in heaven. And I heard the same voice that spoke to me before. It was the voice that sounded like a trumpet. The voice said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.”
