Terah took his family and left Ur of Babylonia. [70] They planned to travel to Canaan. Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran’s son), and his daughter-in-law Sarai (Abram’s wife). They traveled to the city of Haran and decided to stay there.


When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him. The Lord said, “I am God All-Powerful. [91] Do these things for me: Obey me and live the right way.


I beat my enemies into pieces. They were like dust on the ground. I crushed my enemies. I walked on them like mud in the streets.


The king of Aram defeated Jehoahaz’s army. The king of Aram destroyed most of the men in the army. He left only 50 horse soldiers, 10 chariots, [150] and 10,000 foot soldiers. Jehoahaz’s soldiers were like chaff [151] blown away by the wind at the time of threshing. [152]


Cyrus, King of Persia says: The Lord, the God of heaven, made me king over the whole earth. He gave me the responsibility of building a temple {\cf2\super [459]} for him in Jerusalem. Now, all of you who are God’s people are free to go to Jerusalem. And may the Lord your God be with you.

These are the things the Lord says about Cyrus, {\cf2\super [400]} his chosen king: {\cf2\super [401]}


I gave Cyrus his power\par so he would do good things. {\cf2\super [406]} \par And I will make his work easy.\par Cyrus will build my city again.\par And he will make my people free.\par Cyrus will not sell my people to me.\par I will not have to pay him\par to do these things.\par The people will be freed,\par and the cost to me will be nothing.”\par The Lord, All-Powerful, said these things.\par


And I am calling a man from the east. That man will be like an eagle. He will come from a faraway country, and he will do the things I decide to do. I am telling you that I will do this, and I will do it. I made him, and I will bring him!


\{The Lord says,\}\par “I told you I would call him. {\cf2\super [414]} \par And I will bring him!\par I will make him succeed!\par


“The Lord rejected all my strong soldiers.\par Those soldiers were inside the city.\par Then the Lord brought a group of people against me.\par He brought those people to kill my young soldiers.\par The Lord has stepped on the grapes in the winepress.\par


Melchizedek {\cf2\super [54]} was the king of Salem and a priest for God the Most High. Melchizedek met Abraham {\cf2\super [55]} when Abraham was coming back after defeating the kings. That day Melchizedek blessed Abraham.


The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates. The water in the river was dried up. This prepared the way for the rulers from the east to come.


Then I saw another angel coming from the east. This angel had the seal of the living God. The angel called out with a loud voice to the four angels. These were the four angels that God had given the power to hurt the earth and the sea. The angel said to the four angels,
