24 You sent your officers\par to insult the Lord my Master.\par You said,\par ‘\{I am very powerful!\}\par I have many, many chariots. {\cf2\super [354]} \par \{With my power I defeated Lebanon.\}\par I climbed the highest mountains\par of Lebanon. {\cf2\super [355]} \par I cut down all the great trees (armies)\par of Lebanon.\par I have been to the highest mountain\par and into the deepest part of that forest.\par

Some people trust their chariots. {\cf2\super [117]} \par Other people trust their soldiers.\par But we remember the Lord our God.\par


“The enemy said, ‘I’ll chase them and catch them. I’ll take all their riches. I’ll take it all with my sword. I’ll take everything for myself.’


Then the fire grows and burns away the great trees and vineyards. {\cf2\super [120]} Finally, everything is destroyed—even the people. \{It will be like that when God destroys Assyria.\} Assyria will be like a rotting log.


Watch! Our Master, the Lord All-Powerful, will chop down the great tree (Assyria). The Lord will do this with his great power. The great and important people will be cut down—they will become not important.


The Lord will cut down the forest with his axe. And the great trees in Lebanon {\cf2\super [132]} (important people) will fall.


You were an evil king,\par and now you are finished.\par Even the pine trees are happy.\par The cedar trees of Lebanon are happy.\par The trees say,\par “The king chopped us down.\par But now the king has fallen,\par and he will never stand again.”\par


This is the truth: After a short time, Lebanon will have rich soil like Mount Carmel. {\cf2\super [271]} And Mount Carmel will be like a thick forest.


But even then you will not be able to defeat even one of my master’s lowest ranking officers! So why do you continue to depend on Egypt’s chariots {\cf2\super [339]} and horse soldiers!


The commander’s master, the king of Assyria, has sent him to say bad things about the living God. Maybe the Lord your God will hear all those things. Maybe the Lord will prove the enemy is wrong! So pray for the people that are still left alive.”


This is what the Lord says about the palace where the king of Judah lives:


I will send men to destroy the palace.\par Each man will have weapons\par that he will use to destroy that house.\par Those men will cut up your strong,\par beautiful cedar beams.\par Those men will throw those beams\par into the fire.”\par


It is Egypt that comes\par like the rising Nile River.\par It is Egypt that comes\par like that strong, fast river.\par Egypt says,\par ‘I will come and cover the earth.\par I will destroy the cities\par and the people in them.’\par


“Son of man, {\cf2\super [154]} look toward Jerusalem and speak against their holy places. Speak against the land of Israel for me.
