When any of these things happen, if even one man is sorry {for his sins} and spreads his hands in prayer toward this temple,


The Lord said to him: “I heard your prayer. I heard the things that you asked me to do. You built this temple. And I have made it a holy place. So I will be honored there forever. I will watch over it and think of it always.


Hezekiah received the letters from the messengers and read them. Then Hezekiah went up to the Lord’s temple [236] and laid the letters out in front of the Lord.


Hezekiah prayed before the Lord and said, “Lord, the God of Israel who sits as King between the Cherub angels. [237] You are the God—you alone—of all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth!


Lord, I lift my arms and pray to you.\par I am waiting for your help,\par like a dry land waiting for rain.\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [644]})\i0 \par


The Lord will protect me\par when I am in danger.\par He will hide me in his tent. {\cf2\super [163]} \par He will take me up\par to his place of safety.\par


God, how much longer will the enemy\par make fun of us?\par Will you let them insult your name forever?\par


King Hezekiah listened to those things. Then Hezekiah tore his clothes \{to show he was upset\}. Then Hezekiah put on the special clothes of sadness and went to the Lord’s temple. {\cf2\super [346]}


Where is the king of Hamath? The king of Arpad? The king of the city of Sepharvaim? The kings of Hena and Ivvah? \{They are all finished! They were all destroyed!\}


Hezekiah began praying to the Lord and said:
