God became angry at his people.\par God was fed up with them!\par


A cow knows its master.\par And a donkey knows the place where its owner feeds it.\par But the people of Israel don’t know me.\par My people don’t understand.”\par


On a beautiful summer day, at noon, people will be resting. (It will be during the hot harvest time when there is no rain, but only early morning dew.) Then something terrible will happen. The time will be after the flowers have bloomed. The new grapes will be budding and growing. But before harvest, the enemy will come and cut the plants. The enemy will break the vines and throw them away.


Jacob, the Lord made you! Israel, the Lord made you! And now the Lord says, “Don’t be afraid! I saved you. I named you. You are mine.


Bring to me all the people that are mine—the people that have my name. I made those people for myself. I made those people, and they are mine.”


I am the Lord, and I made you. I am the One who made you to be what you are. I have helped you since the time you were in your mother’s body. Jacob, my servant, don’t be afraid. Jeshurun, {\cf2\super [391]} I chose you.


The Lord made you what you are.\par The Lord did this while you\par were still in your mother’s body.\par The Lord says,\par “I, the Lord, made everything!\par I put the skies there myself!\par I spread the earth before me.”\par


\{The Lord says,\} “My people will be captured and taken away. Why? Because they don’t really know \{me\}. Some of the people living in Israel are important now. They are happy with their easy lives. But all those great people will become very thirsty and very hungry.


All the people are evil. So the Lord is not happy with the young men. And the Lord will not show mercy to their widows and orphans. {\cf2\super [111]} Why? Because all the people are evil. The people do things that are against God. The people speak lies. So God will continue to be angry with the people. God will continue to punish the people.


The Lord gave you a name.\par He called you,\par ‘A green olive tree,\par beautiful to look at.’\par But with a strong storm,\par the Lord will set that tree on fire,\par and its branches will be burned up.\par


I will make the people of Judah stumble and fall into one another. Fathers and sons will fall into one another.’” This message is from the Lord. “‘I will not feel sorry or have pity for them. I will not allow compassion to stop me from destroying the people of Judah.’”


So the Lord says: “Jeremiah, don’t go into a house where people are eating a funeral meal. Don’t go there to cry for the dead or show your sorrow. Don’t do those things. Why? Because I have taken back my blessing. I will not be kind to these people of Judah. I will not feel sorry for them.” This message is from the Lord.


Those peaceful pastures are like\par an empty desert.\par This happened because the Lord is angry.\par


\{God said,\} “My people are foolish.\par They don’t know me.\par They are stupid children.\par They don’t understand.\par They are skillful at doing evil,\par but they don’t know how to do good.”\par


Even the birds in the sky\par know the right time to do things.\par The storks, doves, swifts, and thrushes\par know when it is time to fly to a new home.\par But my people don’t know what the Lord wants them to do.\par


But the vine was pulled up by the roots,\par and thrown down to the ground.\par The hot east wind blew and dried its fruit.\par The strong branches broke.\par And they were thrown into the fire.\par


Say to the Negev Forest, ‘Listen to the word of the Lord. The Lord my Master said these things: Look, I am ready to start a fire in your forest. The fire will destroy every green tree and every dry tree. The flame that burns won’t be put out. All the land from south to north will be burned by the fire.


And I won’t show any mercy. I won’t feel sorry for these people. They brought it on themselves—I am only giving these people the punishment they deserve!”


“I can’t blame {\cf2\super [41]} your daughters for being prostitutes, {\cf2\super [42]} or your daughters-in-law for doing sexual sins. The men go and sleep with prostitutes. They go and offer sacrifices with the temple prostitutes. {\cf2\super [43]} So, those foolish people are destroying themselves.


“My people are destroyed because they have no knowledge. You have refused to learn. So I will refuse to let you be a priest for me. You have forgotten the law of your God, so I will forget your children.


Yes, the minds of these people\par (the Jews) are now closed.\par They have ears,\par but they don’t listen.\par And they refuse to see \{the truth\}.\par If their minds were not closed,\par they might see with their eyes;\par they might hear with their ears;\par they might understand with their minds.\par Then they might turn back to me and be healed.\par \i (Isaiah 6:9-10)\i0 \par


What is the seed that fell by the path? That seed is like the person that hears the teaching about the kingdom but does not understand it. The Evil One (the devil) comes and takes away the things that were planted in that person’s heart.


The ax is now ready to cut down the trees. {\cf2\super [40]} Every tree that does not make good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.


If a person does not continue in me, then he is like a branch that is thrown away. That branch dies. People pick up dead branches, throw them into the fire, and burn them.


People did not think it was important to have a true knowledge of God. So God left them and allowed those people to have their own worthless thinking. And so those people do the things that they should not do.


they are foolish, they don’t keep their promises, and they show no kindness or mercy to other people.


Obey these laws carefully. This will show the people of the other nations that you are wise and understanding. The people of those nations will hear about these laws. Then they will say, ‘Truly, the people of this great nation (Israel) are wise and understanding.’


Yes. They try to stop us from teaching the non-Jews. We teach the non-Jews so that the non-Jews can be saved. But those Jews are adding more and more sins to the sins they already have. The anger of God has fully come to them now.


Yes, you must show mercy to other people. If you do not show mercy, then God will not show mercy to you when he judges you. But the person who shows mercy can stand without fear when he is judged.
