19 \{But the Lord says,\}\par “Your people have died,\par but they will live again.\par The bodies of my people\par will rise from death.\par Dead people in the ground,\par stand and be happy!\par The dew covering you is like\par the dew sparkling in the light of a new day.\par It shows a new time is coming when the earth\par will give up the dead people\par that are in it.”\par

I thought I would be healthy and virile\par like a healthy plant with\par roots that have plenty of water\par and branches that are wet with dew.\par


Your people will volunteer\par when you gather your army together.\par They will wear their special clothes\par and meet together early in the morning,\par Those young men will be\par \{all around you\} like dew on the ground. {\cf2\super [574]} \par


My mouth {\cf2\super [127]} is as dry\par as a piece of broken pottery.\par My tongue is sticking\par to the top of my mouth.\par You have put me in the “dust of death.”\par

The Lord said, “I will be in the place prepared for me. {\cf2\super [185]} I will quietly watch these things happen:


But death will be destroyed forever. {\cf2\super [238]} And the Lord my Master will wipe away every tear from every face. \{In the past,\} all of his people were sad. But God will take away that sadness from the earth. All of this will happen because the Lord said it would.


Wake up! Wake up!\par Jerusalem, get up!\par The Lord was very angry at you.\par So you were punished.\par \{This punishment was like\} a cup of poison you had to drink.\par And you drank it.\par


Many of the people that are dead and buried {\cf2\super [133]} will wake up. Some of them will wake up to have life forever. But some will wake up to have shame and disgrace forever.


“I will save them from the grave!\par I will rescue them from death!\par Death, where are your diseases?\par Grave, where is your power?\par I am not looking for revenge!\par


I will be like the dew to Israel.\par Israel will blossom like the lily. {\cf2\super [149]} \par He will grow like the cedar trees of Lebanon.\par


After two days he will bring us back\par to life.\par He will raise us up on the third day.\par Then we can live near him.\par


“These people will plant in peace. Their grapevines will produce grapes. The land will give good crops, and the skies will give rain. I will give all these things to these, my people.


All the graves opened, and many of God’s people that had died were raised from death.


Joseph went to Pilate and asked to have Jesus’ body. Pilate gave orders for the soldiers to give Jesus’ body to Joseph.


I have the same hope in God that these Jews have—the hope that all people, good and bad, will be raised from death.


But Christ has truly been raised from death—the first one of all those \{believers\} who will be raised from death.


And everything that is made easy to see can become light. This is why we say:


My teachings will come like the rain, like a mist falling {to the ground}, like a gentle rain on the soft grass, like rain on the green plants.


So Israel will live in safety, Jacob’s well belongs to them. They will get a land of grain and wine. And that land will get plenty of rain.


All I want is to know Christ and the power of his rising from death. I want to share in Christ’s sufferings and become like him in his death.


He will change our humble bodies and make them like his own glorious body. Christ can do this by his power. With that power Christ is able to rule all things.


The Lord causes people to die, and he causes them to live. The Lord sends people down to the grave, [21] and he can raise them up {to live again}.
