I will stretch the measuring line of Samaria [262] and the plumb bob [263] of Ahab’s family over Jerusalem. A man wipes a dish, and then he turns it upside down. I will do that to Jerusalem.


Please remember the teaching you gave your servant Moses. You said to him, “If you people of Israel are not faithful, I will force you to be scattered among the other nations.


The Lord protects strangers {\cf2\super [647]} in our country.\par The Lord cares for widows {\cf2\super [648]} and orphans. {\cf2\super [649]} \par But the Lord destroys bad people.\par


With my anger, I will make the sky shake. And the earth will be moved from its place.”


The Lord and this army\par are coming from a faraway land.\par They are coming from beyond the horizon.\par The Lord will use this army like a weapon\par to show his anger.\par This army will destroy the whole country.”\par


People will hide behind rocks and in cracks in the ground. People will be afraid of the Lord and his great power. This will happen when the Lord stands to make the earth shake.

The Lord my Master says these things, “All the earth will be happy when I destroy you


\{God said,\} “\{Jerusalem,\} I will destroy you—you will be nothing but a pile of rocks. The people around you will make fun of you. Every person that walks by will make fun of you.


Bad things will happen wherever your people live. Their cities will become piles of rock. Their high places will be destroyed. Why? So that those places of worship will never be used again. Those altars will all be destroyed. People will never worship those filthy idols again. Those incense altars will be smashed. All the things you made will be completely destroyed!


People far away will die from disease. People near this place will be killed with swords. And the people that are left in the city will starve to death. Only then will I stop being angry.


But I will raise my arm over you people and punish you and your people, wherever they live! I will destroy your country! It will be emptier than Diblah Desert. {\cf2\super [52]} Then they will know that I am the Lord!”


The Lord will come,\par and the mountains will shake \{with fear\},\par and the hills will melt away.\par The Lord will come,\par and the earth will shake with fear.\par The world and every person on it\par will shake with fear.\par


Now \{Nineveh\} is empty\par Everything is stolen.\par The city is ruined!\par People have lost their courage,\par their hearts are melting with fear,\par their knees are knocking together,\par their bodies are shaking,\par their faces become pale from fear.\par


Some of the people will be killed by soldiers. Other people will be made prisoners and taken to every country. The holy city of Jerusalem will be walked on by non-Jewish people until their time is finished.


But they did not find Paul and Silas. So the people dragged Jason and some of the other believers to the leaders of the city. The people yelled, “These men (Paul and Silas) have made trouble everywhere in the world. And now they have come here too!


The Lord will scatter you among all the people in the world. The Lord will scatter you from one end of the earth to the other. There you will serve false gods made of wood and stone. They are false gods that you or your ancestors [188] never worshiped.


I thought about destroying the Israelites so people would forget them completely!


The Lord will scatter you among the nations. And only a few of you will be left alive to go to the countries where the Lord will send you.
