Lord, you throw away\par the wicked people on earth like trash.\par So I will love your Agreement {\cf2\super [599]} forever.\par


“Goodness is like silver. But your silver has become worthless. Your wine (goodness) has been mixed with water—it is now weak.


How will Jacob’s guilt be forgiven? What will happen so his sins can be taken away? \{These things will happen\}: The rocks of the altar will be crushed to dust; the statues {\cf2\super [251]} and altars {\cf2\super [252]} for worshiping false gods will all be destroyed.


The Lord will wash away the blood {\cf2\super [39]} from the women of Zion. {\cf2\super [40]} The Lord will wash all the blood out of Jerusalem. God will use the spirit of justice \{and judge fairly\}. And he will use the spirit of burning, \{and make everything pure\}.


\{They are like a worker\par that tried to make silver pure.\}\par The bellows {\cf2\super [49]} blew strongly\par \{and the fire became hotter\}.\par But only lead came from the fire! {\cf2\super [50]} \par The worker wasted his time\par trying to make that silver pure.\par In the same way, the evil was not removed\par \{from my people\}.\par


One bad thing followed another.\par And lies followed lies.\par The people refused to know me.”\par The Lord said those things.\par


So, the Lord All-Powerful says:\par “A worker heats metal in a fire\par to test if it is pure.\par I will test the people of Judah like that.\par I have no other choice.\par My people have sinned.\par


I will remove all the people that turned against me and sinned against me. I will remove those people from your homeland. They will never again come to the Land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”


So the Lord and Master says these things, ‘All of you people have become like worthless waste. So I will gather you into Jerusalem.


Workers put silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into a fire. They blow on the fire to make it hotter. Then the metals begin to melt. In the same way, I will put you in my fire and melt you. That fire is my hot anger.


Silver melts in the fire \{and workers pour off the silver and save it\}. In the same way, you will melt in the city. Then you will know that I am the Lord. And you will know that I have poured out my anger against you.’”


“Then, Jerusalem, you will no longer be ashamed of the bad things your people do against me. Why? Because I will remove all of those bad people from Jerusalem. I will take away all of those proud people. There won’t be any of those proud people on my holy mountain. {\cf2\super [21]}


He will make the Levites {\cf2\super [17]} clean. {\cf2\super [18]} He will make them pure, like silver is made pure—with fire! He will make them pure like gold and silver. Then they will bring gifts to the Lord—and they will do those things the right way.


He will come ready to clean the grain. {\cf2\super [43]} He will separate the good grain from the straw. He will put the good part of the grain into his barn. And he will burn the part that is not good. He will burn it with a fire that cannot be stopped.”


“The whole world should be happy for God’s people! {Why? Because he helps them}— he punishes people who kill his servants. He gives his enemies the punishment they deserve. And he makes his land and people pure. [217] ”


“I correct and punish those people that I love. So start trying hard! Change your hearts and lives!
