I gave a warning to your ancestors {\cf2\super [92]} at the time I brought them out of the land of Egypt. I warned them again and again to this very day. I told them to obey me.


Tell these things to the king and his wife,\par “Come down from your thrones.\par Your beautiful crowns have fallen from your heads.”\par


This message is from the King.\par The King is the Lord All-Powerful.\par “I promise, as surely as I live,\par a powerful leader\} will come.\par He will be great like Mount Tabor\par and Mount Carmel near the sea.\par


And that will happen to you at Bethel. Why? Because you did so many evil things. \{When that day\} begins, the king of Israel will be fully destroyed.”


I will attack them like a bear whose cubs were robbed from her. I will attack them. I will rip open their chests. I will be like a lion or other wild animal tearing and eating its prey.”


People of Israel, listen to the Lord’s message! The Lord will tell his argument against the people that live in this country. “People in this country don’t really know God. The people are not true and loyal to God.


Robbers hide and wait to attack someone.\par In the same way,\par priests wait on the road to Shechem\par and attack the people that pass by.\par They have done evil things.\par


God and the prophet are like guards watching over Ephraim. {\cf2\super [90]} But there are many traps along the way. And people hate the prophet, even in the house of his God.


Leaders, listen to this message!\par Listen to me, all you people\par that live in the land.\par Has anything like this happened before\par during your lifetime? No!\par Did anything like this happen\par during your fathers’ lifetime? No!\par


People of Israel, listen to this message! The Lord said these things about you, Israel. This message is about all the families (Israel) that I brought from the land of Egypt.


Isaac’s high places {\cf2\super [89]} will be destroyed. Israel’s holy places will be made into a pile of rocks. I will attack and kill Jeroboam’s {\cf2\super [90]} family with swords.”


Leaders of Jacob and rulers of Israel,\par listen to me!\par You hate the right way of living!\par If something is straight,\par then you make it crooked!\par


I mean, all of the faithful people are gone.\par There are no good people left\par in this country.\par Every person is waiting to kill someone.\par Every person is trying to trap his brother.\par


The Lord All-Powerful said, “Children honor their father. Servants honor their masters. I am your Father, so why don’t you honor me? I am your Master, so why don’t you respect me? You priests don’t respect my name.”


“Priests, this rule is for you! Listen to me! Pay attention to the things I say! Show honor to my name!


Someone told Sisera that Barak son of Abinoam was at Mount Tabor.


Deborah sent a message to a man named Barak. She asked him to come to meet with her. Barak was the son of a man named Abinoam. Barak lived in the city of Kedesh, which is in the area of Naphtali. Deborah said to Barak, “The Lord God of Israel commands you: ‘Go and gather 10,000 men from the family groups of Naphtali and Zebulun. Lead those men to Mount Tabor.


Samuel went from place to place judging the people of Israel. Every year he traveled around the country. He went to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah. So he judged and ruled the people of Israel in all these places.


Samuel said, “All Israel must meet at Mizpah. I will pray to the Lord for you.”


The Israelites met together at Mizpah. They got water and poured it out before the Lord. {In this way, they began a time of fasting.} They did not eat any food that day and they confessed their sins. They said, “We have sinned against the Lord.” So Samuel served as a judge [86] of Israel at Mizpah.
