Hebrews 9:7 - Easy To Read Version

7 But only the high priest {\cf2\super [100]} could go into the second room. And the high priest went into that room only once a year. And the high priest could never enter that room without taking blood with him. The priest offered that blood to God for himself and for the people’s sins. Those sins were the sins the people did without knowing that they were sinning.

But the Lord was angry at Uzzah and killed him. [39] Uzzah showed he did not honor God when he touched the Holy Box. Uzzah died there by God’s Holy Box.


Manasseh encouraged the people of Judah and the people living in Jerusalem to do wrong. They were worse than the nations that were in the land before the Israelites—and the Lord destroyed those people!


\{Lord,\} no person can see all of his own mistakes.\par So don’t let me do secret sins.\par


I was patient with those people\par for 40 years.\par And I know that they are not faithful.\par Those people refused to follow my teachings.\par


“Once a year Aaron must make a special sacrifice [297] to the Lord. Aaron will use the blood of the sin offering to erase the sins of the people. Aaron will do this at the horns of this altar. [298] This day will be called the Day of Atonement. This will be a very special day for the Lord.”


But now those leaders are drunk. The priests and prophets are all drunk with wine and beer. They stumble and fall down. The prophets are drunk when they see their dreams. The judges are drunk when they make their decisions.


So I will continue to amaze these people by doing powerful and amazing things. Their wise men will lose their wisdom. Their wise men will not be able to understand.”


Children will defeat my people. Women will rule over my people. My people, your guides lead you in the wrong way. They turn you away from the right way.


The men that lead the people are leading them the wrong way. And the people that follow them will be destroyed.


My people are asking pieces of wood for advice. They think those sticks will answer them. Why? Because they have chased after those false gods like prostitutes. {\cf2\super [38]} They left their God and became like prostitutes.


That law for making the people of Israel pure will continue forever. You will do those things one time every year. Why? Because of the sins of the people of Israel.”


That person must bring a ram that has nothing wrong with it to the priest. The ram will be a guilt offering. In this way, the priest will make that person pure [54] from the sin that person did without knowing. And God will forgive that person.


No person will escape—not even the fastest runner. Strong men will not be strong enough. Soldiers will not be able to save themselves.


“So the priest must do the things that will make the people pure. [195] He must do this for all of the people of Israel. The people did not know they were sinning. But when they learned about it, they brought a gift to the Lord. They brought the offering made by fire and the sin offering. So the people will be forgiven.


Those people don’t understand. They know nothing, because they refuse to listen. So they cannot have the life that God gives.


Those people’s sacrifices make them remember their sins every year,


We have this hope. And it is like an anchor. It is strong and sure and keeps us safe. It goes behind the curtain {\cf2\super [51]} \{in the heavenly temple\}.


He is not like those other priests. Those other priests had to offer (give) sacrifices {\cf2\super [75]} every day. They had to offer sacrifices first for their own sins and then for the sins of the people. But Christ doesn’t need to do that. Christ offered only one sacrifice for all time. Christ offered himself.


Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place. {\cf2\super [93]}
