8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, When I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
8 However, He finds fault with them [showing its inadequacy] when He says, Behold, the days will come, says the Lord, when I will make and ratify a new covenant or agreement with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, That I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;
8 But God did find fault with them, since he says, “Look, the days are coming, says the Lord, ” “when I will make a covenant with the house of Israel, ” “and I will make a new covenant with the house of Judah. ”
8 For, finding fault with them, he says: "Behold, the days shall arrive, says the Lord, when I will consummate a New Testament over the house of Israel and the house of Judah,
8 For finding fault with them, he saith: Behold, the days shall come, saith the Lord: and I will perfect unto the house of Israel, and unto the house of Juda, a new testament:
Listen closely to the things I say.\par Listen to me so your souls will live.\par Come to me and I will make an agreement\par with you that will continue forever.\par It will be like the agreement\par that I made with David.\par I promised David that I would love him\par and be loyal to him forever.\par And you can trust that agreement.\par
This message is from the Lord,\par “The time is coming,”\par “when I will raise up a good ‘sprout.’ {\cf2\super [181]} \par He will be a king\par who will rule in a wise way.\par He will do what is fair and right\par in the land.\par
“So the time is coming,” this message is from the Lord, “when people won’t say the old promise by the Lord any more. The old promise is: ‘As surely as the Lord lives, the Lord is the One who brought the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt.’
Do this because the days will come”—this message is from the Lor —“when I will bring my people, Israel and Judah, back from exile.” {\cf2\super [231]} This message is from the Lord. “I will put those people back in the land that I gave to their ancestors. {\cf2\super [232]} Then my people will own that land again.”
“The days are coming,” this message is from the Lord, “when I will help the family of Israel and Judah to grow. I will help their children and animals to grow too. It will be like planting and caring for a plant.
This message is from the Lord, “The days are coming when the city of Jerusalem will be built again for the Lord. The whole city will be built again—from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.
“‘I will make an Agreement with the people of Israel and Judah. This Agreement will last forever. In this Agreement, I will never turn away from those people. I will always be good to them. I will make them want to respect me. Then they will never turn away from me.
And I will make a peace agreement with them. This agreement will continue forever. I agree to give them their land. I agree to make them become many, many people. And I agree to put my holy place among them forever.
This wine is my blood. My blood (death) begins the new agreement \{from God to his people\}. This blood is given for many people to forgive their sins.
Then Jesus said to his followers, “The time will come when you will want very much to see one of the days of the Son of Man, {\cf2\super [276]} but you will not be able.
In the same way, after supper, Jesus took the cup of wine and said, “This wine shows the new agreement \{from God to his people\}. This new agreement begins with my blood (death) that I am giving for you.” {\cf2\super [350]}
In the same way, after they ate, Jesus took the cup of wine. Jesus said, “This wine shows the new agreement \{from God to his people\}. This new agreement begins with my blood (death). When you drink this, do it to remember me.”
God made us able to be servants of a new agreement \{from God to his people\}. This new agreement is not a written law. It is of the Spirit. {\cf2\super [9]} The written law brings death, but the Spirit gives life.
You have come to Jesus—the One that brought the new agreement {\cf2\super [168]} from God to his people. You have come to the sprinkled blood {\cf2\super [169]} that tells us about better things than the blood of Abel. {\cf2\super [170]}
God called this a new agreement, {\cf2\super [90]} so God has made the first agreement {\cf2\super [91]} old. And anything that is old and useless is ready to disappear.
But the work that has been given to Jesus is much greater than the work that was given to those priests. In the same way, the new agreement {\cf2\super [85]} that Jesus brought from God to his people is much greater than the old one. And the new agreement is based on promises of better things.
So Christ brings a new agreement {\cf2\super [108]} from God to his people. Christ brings this new agreement so that those people that are called by God can have the things that God promised. God’s people can have those things forever. They can have those things because Christ died to pay for the sins that people did under the first agreement. {\cf2\super [109]} Christ died to make people free from those sins.
