7 [Prompted] by faith Noah, being forewarned by God concerning events of which as yet there was no visible sign, took heed and diligently and reverently constructed and prepared an ark for the deliverance of his own family. By this [his faith which relied on God] he passed judgment and sentence on the world's unbelief and became an heir and possessor of righteousness (that relation of being right into which God puts the person who has faith). Noah did all these things. Noah obeyed all the things that God commanded.

This is the story about the family of Noah. Noah was a good man all his life. Noah always followed God.

In this way, God wiped the earth clean—God destroyed every living thing on the earth—every man, every animal, everything that crawls, and every bird. All these things were destroyed from the earth. The only life that was left was Noah and those people and animals that were with him in the boat.

Noah did everything the Lord told him to do.

“Leave the boat. You, your wife, your sons, and your sons’ wives should go out now.

So the woman left Elisha, {went into her house,} and shut the door. Only she and her sons were in the house. Her sons brought the bowls to her and she poured oil.

Wise people see trouble coming and get out of its way. But a fool goes straight to the trouble and suffers because of it.

\{I would punish that country\} even if Noah, Danel, and Job {\cf2\super [114]} lived there. Those men could save their own lives by their goodness, \{but they could not save the whole country\}.” The Lord my Master said these things.

If Noah, Danel, and Job lived there, \{then I would save those three men\} because they are good men. Those three men could save their own lives. But by my life I promise, they could not save the lives of other people—not even their own sons and daughters!” The Lord my Master said these things.

The Good News shows how God makes people right with himself. God’s way of making people right begins and ends with faith. Like the Scripture {\cf2\super [11]} says, “The person that is right with God by faith will live forever.” {\cf2\super [12]}

But this is what the Scripture {\cf2\super [100]} says about being made right through faith: “Don’t say to yourself, ‘Who will go up into heaven?’” {\cf2\super [101]} (That means, “Who will go up to heaven to get Christ and bring him down to earth?”)

Abraham {\cf2\super [39]} and his descendants {\cf2\super [40]} received the promise that they would get the whole world. But Abraham did not receive that promise because he followed the law. {\cf2\super [41]} Abraham received that promise because he was right with God through his faith.
