Then God said, “Let there be lights in the sky. These lights will separate the days from the nights. These lights will be used for special signs and to show when special meetings [4] begin. And they will be used to show the days and years.


Then God said, “Let the water be filled with many living things. And let there be birds to fly in the air over the earth.”


God’s breath makes the skies clear.\par God’s hand destroyed the snake\par that tried to get away. {\cf2\super [50]} \par


God fills the clouds with water,\par and scatters those thunderclouds.\par


Job, can you help God spread out the sky,\par and make it shine like polished brass?\par

Each new day tells more of the story.\par And each night reveals more and more about God’s power.\par


The Lord spoke the command,\par and the world was made.\par The breath from God’s mouth\par created everything on earth.\par


Why? Because God just gives a command,\par and that thing happens.\par And if he says, “Stop!”\par then that thing will stop. {\cf2\super [207]} \par


\{There are some things you can be sure of.\} If clouds are full of rain, then they will pour water on the earth. If a tree falls—to the south or to the north—then it will stay where it falls.


\{The Lord is the true God!\}\par He sits above the circle of the earth,\par \{and compared to him\}\par people are like grasshoppers.\par He rolled open the skies\par like a piece of cloth.\par He stretched the skies\par like a tent to sit under.\par


But the Lord is the only true God.\par He is the only God who is truly alive.\par He is the King that rules forever.\par The earth shakes when God is angry.\par The people of the nations can’t stop his anger.\par


The Lord used his great power\par and made the earth.\par He used his wisdom to build the world.\par He used his understanding\par to stretch out the skies.\par


The sad message from the Lord about Israel. The Lord made the sky and the earth. He put man’s spirit in him. And the Lord said these things.


But those people don’t want to remember what happened long ago. The skies were there, and God made the earth from water and with water. All this happened by God’s word.
