Ezra 10:3 - Easy To Read Version

3 Now let us make an agreement before our God to send away all those women and their children. We will do that to follow the advice of Ezra and the people who respect the laws of our God. We will obey God’s law.

Then Jehoiada made the agreement between the Lord and the king and the people. This agreement showed that the king and the people belonged to the Lord. Jehoiada also made the agreement between the king and the people. {This agreement showed what the king would do for the people. And it showed that the people would obey and follow the king.}


So now I, Hezekiah, have decided to make an agreement with the Lord God of Israel. Then he will not be angry at us any more.


Also, in Judah God’s power united the people so that they would obey the king and his officials. In this way they obeyed the word of the Lord.


The king said, “Go, ask the Lord for me, and for the people that are left in Israel and in Judah. Ask about the words in the book that was found. The Lord is very angry with us because our ancestors {\cf2\super [430]} did not obey the Lord’s word. They did not do all the things this book says to do!”


‘Josiah, you repented and you humbled yourself, and tore your clothes. {\cf2\super [434]} You cried before me. So, because your heart was tender,


Now, you people must confess to the Lord that you have sinned. The Lord is the God of your ancestors. You must obey the Lord’s command. Separate yourselves from the people living around you and from your foreign wives.”


All of those men had married foreign women. And some of them had children with those wives.


So, in three days all the men from the families of Judah and Benjamin gathered in Jerusalem. And on the twentieth day of the ninth month, {\cf2\super [58]} all the people met together in the temple yard. They were very upset because of the reason for the meeting and because of the heavy rain.


Then every person that respected God’s Law shook with fear. They were afraid because the people of Israel that came back from captivity were not faithful to God. I was shocked and upset. I sat there until the evening sacrifice. And those people gathered around me.


These are the names on the sealed agreement: Nehemiah the governor. Nehemiah was the son of Hacaliah. Zedekiah,


Because of all of these things,\par we are making an agreement\par that can’t be changed.\par We are putting this agreement in writing.\par Our leaders, Levites, and priests\par are signing their names\par on this agreement\par


Lord, I am afraid of you.\par I fear and respect your laws.\par


I thought very carefully about my life.\par And I came back to your Agreement. {\cf2\super [593]} \par


I myself made all things.\par All things are here because I made them.”\par The Lord himself said these things.\par “Tell me, what people do I care for?\par I care for the poor people.\par I care for the people that are very sad.\par I care for people that obey my words.\par


You should follow the teachings and the agreement. {\cf2\super [105]} If you don’t follow these commands, then you might follow the wrong commands. (The wrong commands are those commands that come from the wizards and fortune tellers. Those commands are worth nothing; you will gain nothing by following those commands.)


Then the Lord (Glory) said to him, “Go through the city of Jerusalem. Put a mark on the forehead of every person that feels sad and upset about all the terrible things people are doing in this city.”


You are all here to enter into an agreement with the Lord your God. The Lord is making this agreement with you today.


Then the men went to the camp of the people of Israel. This camp was near Gilgal.
