Those shepherds (leaders) are responsible for my people. And the Lord, the God of Israel, says these things to those shepherds: “You shepherds (leaders) have made my sheep run away in all directions. You have forced them to go away. And you have not taken care of them. But I will take care of you—I will punish you for the bad things you did.” This message is from the Lord:
If those men are prophets and have the message from the Lord, let them pray. Let them pray about the things that are still in the Lord’s temple. Let them pray about the things that are still in the king’s palace. And let them pray about the things that are still in Jerusalem. Let those prophets pray that all those things will not be taken away to Babylon.”
So I will give their wives to other men.\par I will give their fields to new owners.\par All the people of Israel want\par more and more money.\par All the people,\par from the least important\par to most important people,\par are like that.\par All the people,\par from prophets to priests,\par tell lies.\par
“The prophets \{don’t warn the people—they cover up the truth. They are like workers that don’t really fix a wall\}—they only put plaster over the holes. They only see lies. They do their magic to learn the future, but they only tell lies. They say, ‘The Lord my Master said these things.’ But they are only lying—the Lord did not speak to them!
The judges in Jerusalem accept bribes\par to help them decide who wins in court.\par The priests in Jerusalem must be paid\par before they will teach the people.\par People must pay the prophets\par before they will look into the future.\par And then those leaders expect the Lord\par to help them. They say,\par “The Lord lives here with us.\par So nothing bad will happen to us.”\par
