13 \{He will try to escape.\} But I (God) will catch him! He will be caught in my trap. And I will bring him to Babylonia—the land of the Chaldean people. But he will not be able to see where he is going. \{The enemy will poke out his eyes and make him blind.\}

But it is God who did wrong to me.\par He set his trap to catch me.\par


He will make hot coals and burning\par sulphur fall like rain on those bad people.\par Those bad people will get nothing but\par a hot, burning wind. {\cf2\super [63]} \par


God, you let us be trapped.\par You put heavy burdens on us.\par


“But Zedekiah king of Judah will be like those figs that are too rotten to eat. Zedekiah, his high officials, all the people that are left in Jerusalem, and those people of Judah that are living in Egypt will be like those rotten figs.


The king of Babylon will take Zedekiah to Babylon. Zedekiah will stay there until I have punished him.’ This message is from the Lord. ‘If you fight against the army of the Babylonians, you will not succeed.’”)


Zedekiah, you will not escape from the king of Babylon. You will surely be caught and given to him. You will see the king of Babylon with your own eyes. He will talk to you face to face, and you will go to Babylon.


Then King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah and had him brought to the king’s house. Zedekiah talked to Jeremiah in private. He asked Jeremiah, “Is there any message from the Lord?”


Then Nebuchadnezzar tore out Zedekiah’s eyes. He put bronze chains on Zedekiah and took him to Babylon.


Babylon, I set a trap for you.\par And you were caught before you knew it.\par You fought against the Lord,\par so you were found and captured.\par


The Lord sent fire from above.\par That fire went down into my bones.\par He stretched out a net for my feet.\par He turned me all the way around.\par He made me into a wasteland.\par I am sick all day.\par


We have been frightened.\par We have fallen into a pit.\par We have been hurt bad!\par We have been broken!”\par


At night, put your bag on your shoulder and leave. Cover your face so you can’t see where you are going. You must do these things so the people can see you. Why? Because I am using you as an example to the family of Israel.”


The Lord my Master says, “By my life, I promise this new king will die in Babylonia! Nebuchadnezzar made this man the new king of Judah. But this man broke his promise with Nebuchadnezzar. This new king ignored that agreement.


I will set my trap, and he will be caught in it. And I will bring him to Babylon and I will punish him in that place. I will punish him because he turned against me.


The Lord my Master says these things:


They go to those countries for help,\par but I will trap them.\par I will throw my net over them,\par and I will bring them down like\par the birds of the sky.\par I will punish them for their agreements. {\cf2\super [73]} \par


It will come like a surprise to all people on earth.
