Ephesians 2:9
9 Tagairtí Cros

And if God chose his people by grace, then it is not the things they have done that made them God’s people. If they could be made God’s people by the things they did, then God’s gift of grace would not really be a gift.

Why? Because no person can be made right with God by following the law. The law only shows us our sin.

If Abraham was made right by the things he did, then he had a reason to boast. But Abraham could not boast before God.

So God will choose the person he decides to show mercy to. And his choice does not depend on what people want or try to do.

God saved us and made us his holy people. {\cf2\super [6]} That happened not because of anything we did ourselves. No! God saved us and made us his people because that was what he wanted and because of his grace (kindness). That grace was given to us through Christ Jesus before time began.
