But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I promise to the Lord, the God Most High, the One who made heaven and earth—


Abraham planted a special tree at Beersheba. At that place, Abraham prayed to the Lord, the God who lives forever.


The Lord is alive. I praise my Rock! [144] God is great! He is the Rock who saves me.


Save me from these foreigners.\par These enemies are liars.\par They say things that are not true.\par

I made a great promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I promised to give them a special land. So I will lead you to that land. I will give you that land. It will be yours. I am the Lord.’”


If you do those things,\par then you will be able to use my name\par to make a promise:\par You will be able to say,\par ‘As the Lord lives.’\par And you will be able to use those words\par in a truthful, honest, and right way.\par If you do these things, then the nations\par will be blessed by the Lord.\par They will brag about the things\par that the Lord has done.”\par


But, listen to the message from the Lord, all you people of Judah that are living in Egypt: ‘I use my great name and make this promise: I promise none of the people of Judah that are now living in Egypt will ever again use my name to make promises. They will never again say, “As surely as the Lord lives,”


You must tell them, ‘The Lord my Master says these things: On the day I chose Israel, I raised my hand to Jacob’s family and made a promise to them in Egypt. I raised my hand and said: “I am the Lord your God.


On that day, I promised to take you out of Egypt and lead you to the land I was giving to you. That was a good land filled with many good things. {\cf2\super [141]} It was the most beautiful of all countries!


I will cut both good people and evil people from you. I will pull my sword from its sheath and use it against all people from south to north.


Then all people will know that I am the Lord. And they will know that I have pulled my sword from its sheath. My sword won’t go back into its sheath again \{until it is finished\}.’”


“The man dressed in linen {\cf2\super [136]} and standing over the water lifted his right and left hands toward heaven. And I heard him make a promise using the name of God who lives forever. He said, ‘It will be for three and one-half years. {\cf2\super [137]} The power of the holy people will be broken, and then all these things will finally come true.’


But, I tell you the truth. As surely as I live and as surely as my power fills the whole earth, I make you this promise!


the 24 elders {\cf2\super [36]} bow down before the One who sits on the throne. The elders worship him who lives forever and ever. The elders put their crowns down before the throne and say:


These living things give glory and honor and thanks to the One who sits on the throne. He is the One who lives forever and ever. And every time the living things do this,
