Deuteronomy 28:64 - Easy To Read Version

64 The Lord will scatter you among all the people in the world. The Lord will scatter you from one end of the earth to the other. There you will serve false gods made of wood and stone. They are false gods that you or your ancestors [188] never worshiped.

Look, you are forcing me to leave my land. I won’t be able to see you or be near you! I won’t have a home! I will be forced to wander from place to place on the earth. And whoever finds me will kill me.”


The king of Assyria took Samaria during the ninth year that Hoshea was king of Israel. The king of Assyria captured many Israelites and took them as prisoners to Assyria. He made them live in Halah by the Habor River at Gozan and in other cities of the Medes.


Please remember the teaching you gave your servant Moses. You said to him, “If you people of Israel are not faithful, I will force you to be scattered among the other nations.


You gave us away like sheep\par to be eaten as food.\par You scattered us among the foreigners.\par


The Lord will make the people go far away. There will be large areas of empty land in the country.


People of Judah, I will make you slaves\par of your enemies.\par You will be slaves in a land\par that you never knew.\par I am very angry.\par My anger is like a hot fire,\par and you will be burned.”\par


So I will throw you out of this country. I will force you to go to a foreign country. You will go to a land that you and your ancestors never knew. In that land you can serve false gods all you want to. I will not help you or show you any favors.’


“Israel is like a flock of sheep\par that were scattered all over the country.\par Israel is like sheep that were chased away\par by lions.\par The first lion to attack\par was the king of Assyria.\par The last lion to crush his bones\par was Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.\par


I will scatter the people of Judah\par through other nations.\par They will live in strange nations.\par They and their fathers never knew\par about those countries.\par I will send men with swords.\par Those men will kill the people of Judah.\par They will kill them until the people\par are finished.”\par


Judah suffered very much.\par And then Judah was taken into captivity.\par Judah lives among other nations.\par But she has found no rest.\par The people that chased her caught her.\par They caught her in the narrow valleys.\par


So I made another promise to those people in the desert. I promised to scatter them among the nations, to send them to many different countries.


I scattered them among the nations and spread them through all the lands. I gave them the punishment they should have for the bad things they did.


I will scatter you among the nations. I will pull out my sword and destroy you. Your land will become empty and your cities will be destroyed.


I am giving the command\par \{to destroy the nation Israel\}.\par I will scatter the people of Israel\par among all nations.\par But it will be like a person \{sifting flour\}.\par A person shakes flour through a sifter. {\cf2\super [117]} \par \{The good flour falls through,\}\par but the bad lumps are caught.\par \{It will be that way with Jacob’s family.\}\par


The Lord says,\par “Zion, be happy!\par Why? Because I am coming.\par And I will live in your city.\par


I will bring the other nations against them\par like a storm.\par They didn’t know those nations,\par but the country will be destroyed\par after those nations pass through.\par This pleasant country will be destroyed.”\par


Some of the people will be killed by soldiers. Other people will be made prisoners and taken to every country. The holy city of Jerusalem will be walked on by non-Jewish people until their time is finished.


You must not agree with that person. Don’t listen to him. Don’t feel sorry for him. Don’t let him go free. And don’t protect him.


“The Lord will send you and your king away to a nation you don’t know. You and your ancestors [183] have never seen that nation. There you will serve false gods made of wood and stone.


The people of Israel started serving other gods—gods they never worshiped before. The Lord told his people not to worship those gods.


“All these things I have said will happen to you. You will have good things from the blessings, and you will have bad things from the curses. The Lord your God will send you away to other nations. Then you will think about these things.


They offered sacrifices to demons that were not real gods. Those were new gods that they did not know. Those were new gods that your ancestors did not know.


I thought about destroying the Israelites so people would forget them completely!


“Has anything this great ever happened before? Never! Look at the past. Think about all the things that happened before you were born. Go all the way back to the time when God made people on the earth. Look at all the things that have happened anywhere in the world. Has anyone ever heard about anything as great as this? No!
