32 “Other people will be allowed to take your sons and your daughters. Day after day, you will look for your children. You will look for them until your eyes become weak and blind—but you will not find them. And God will not help you.

And that is why our ancestors were killed in battle. Our sons and daughters and wives were made prisoners.


Bad people might look for help,\par but they won’t escape their troubles.\par Their hope leads only to death.”\par


You know what people say,\par ‘A man neglects his own children\par to help his friends.’ {\cf2\super [32]} \par But my friends have turned against me.\par


Then \{it would be right for other people\}\par to eat the crops I planted\par and to pull up the plants I grew.\par


Lord, I have worn out my eyes\par looking for help from you,\par for a good word from you.\par


I keep looking for the things you promised,\par but my eyes are getting tired.\par Lord, when will you comfort me?\par


I am getting weak from calling for help.\par My throat is hurting.\par I have waited and looked for help from you\par until my eyes are hurting.\par


I cried like a dove.\par I cried like a bird.\par My eyes became tired,\par but I continued looking to the heavens.\par My Master, I am so depressed.\par Promise to help me.”\par


Now Jerusalem says,\par “I refused to listen to the Lord.\par So the Lord is right for doing these things.\par So listen, all you people!\par Look at my pain!\par My young women and men\par have gone into captivity.\par


My eyes are worn out with tears!\par My insides are upset!\par My heart feels like it has been poured\par on the ground!\par I feel this way because of the destruction\par of my people.\par Children and babies are fainting.\par They are fainting in the public squares\par of the city.\par


We have worn out our eyes\par looking for help.\par But no help comes.\par We kept on looking for a nation to save us.\par We kept watch from our watchtower,\par But no nation came to us.\par


Because of these things,\par our hearts have become sick,\par our eyes cannot see clearly.\par


“You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks. That way, you could take them far from their land.


So I will cause you to be taken captive beyond Damascus.”\par The Lord says those things.\par His name is God All-Powerful.\par


Trouble will come to people\par that make plans to sin.\par Those people lie on their beds\par making their evil plans\par Then when the morning light comes,\par they do the bad things they planned.\par Why? Simply because they have the power\par to do what they want.\par


Daughter of Zion, {\cf2\super [54]} feel the pain.\par Give birth to your “baby.”\par You must go out of this city (Jerusalem).\par You will live in the field.\par I mean, you will go to Babylon.\par But you will be saved from that place.\par The Lord will go there and rescue you.\par He will take you away from your enemies.\par


It is bad for you, Moab. You lost Chemosh’s [280] people. His sons ran away. His daughters were taken prisoners by Sihon, king of the Amorites.


The Lord will curse you, and you will not have many children. He will curse your land and you will not have good crops. He will curse your animals and they will not have many babies. He will curse all your calves and lambs.


People will kill your cows in front of you. But you will not eat any of the meat. People will take your donkeys. And they will not give them back to you. Your enemies will get your sheep. And there will not be anyone to save you.


You will have sons and daughters. But you will not be able to keep them. Why? Because they will be captured and taken away.


“You will not have any peace among these nations. You will have no place to rest. The Lord will fill your mind with worry. Your eyes will feel tired. You will be very upset.
