Daniel 4:14 - Easy To Read Version

14 He spoke very loud. He said, ‘Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches. Strip off its leaves. Scatter its fruit around. The animals that are under the tree will run away. The birds that were in its branches will fly away.

That evil person will die\par and even his own mother\par will forget him.\par His sweetheart will be the worms\par eating his body.\par People will not remember him.\par That evil person will be broken\par like a rotten stick!\par


I made the earth and all the people on it. I made all the animals on the earth. I did this with my great power and my strong arm. I can give the earth to anyone I want.


Run away from Babylon.\par Run to save your lives!\par Don’t stay and be killed\par because of Babylon’s sins!\par It is time for the Lord to punish\par the people of Babylon\par for the bad things they did.\par Babylon will get the punishment\par that she should have.\par


We tried to heal Babylon,\par but she can’t be healed.\par So let us leave her,\par and let each of us\par go to our own country.\par God in heaven will decide\par Babylon’s punishment.\par He will decide what will happen to Babylon.\par


So the Lord my Master says these things: “That tree grew tall. Its top reached up to the clouds. It grew so big that it became proud!


He changes the times and seasons.\par And he changes the kings.\par He gives power to kings,\par and he takes their power away!\par He gives wisdom to people\par so they become wise,\par He lets people learn things\par and become wise.\par


Then the man that makes the announcements for the king spoke in a loud voice. He said, “All you people from many nations and language groups, \{listen to me\}. This is what you are commanded to do:


The leaves of the tree were beautiful. It had much good fruit on it. And on the tree was plenty of food for everyone. The wild animals found shelter under the tree. And the birds lived in its branches. Every animal ate from the tree.


“King, you saw a holy angel coming down from heaven. He said, ‘Cut the tree down and destroy it. Put a band of iron and bronze around the stump and leave the stump and its roots in the ground. Leave it in the grass in the field. It will become wet with dew. {\cf2\super [45]} He will live like a wild animal. Seven seasons (years) will pass while he is like this.’


But Nebuchadnezzar became proud and stubborn. So his power was taken away from him. He was taken off his royal throne and stripped of his glory.


Then Nebuchadnezzar was forced to go away from people. His mind became like the mind of an animal. He lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like a cow. He became wet with dew. {\cf2\super [59]} These things happened to him until he learned his lesson. Then he learned that God Most High rules over the kingdoms of men. And God Most High sets anyone he wants over kingdoms.


The ax is now ready to cut down the trees. {\cf2\super [40]} Every tree that does not make good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
