2 Stephen answered, “My Jewish fathers and brothers, listen to me. Our glorious God appeared to Abraham, our ancestor. Abraham was in Mesopotamia. This was before he lived in Haran.

Terah took his family and left Ur of Babylonia. [70] They planned to travel to Canaan. Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran’s son), and his daughter-in-law Sarai (Abram’s wife). They traveled to the city of Haran and decided to stay there.


The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your country and your people. Leave your father’s family and go to the country I will show you.


Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the slaves and all the other things he got in Haran. Then Abram and his group moved to the land of Canaan.


God said to Abram, “I am the Lord who led you from Ur of Babylonia. [85] I did this so I could give you this land—you will own this land.”


Jacob said to the shepherds there, “Brothers, where are you from?”


You are the Lord God.\par You chose Abram.\par You led him from Ur in Babylonia.\par You changed his name to Abraham.\par


Who is that glorious King?\par The Lord All-powerful is that King.\par He is the glorious King!\par


Gates, lift your heads!\par Open, ancient doors,\par and the glorious King will come in.\par


The Lord raises his voice at the sea.\par The voice of the glorious God is like thunder over the great ocean.\par


Did the gods of those people save them? No! My ancestors {\cf2\super [350]} destroyed them all. They destroyed Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden {\cf2\super [351]} living in Tel Assar.


Abraham is your father, and you should look at him. You should look at Sarah—the woman that gave birth to you. Abraham was alone when I called him. Then I blessed him, and he began a great family. Many, many people came from him.”


Each angel was calling to the other angels. The angels said, “Holy, holy, holy, the Lord All-Powerful \{is very holy\}. His Glory {\cf2\super [63]} fills the whole earth.” The angels’ voices were very loud.


Don’t let us be tempted (tested);\par but save us from the Evil One\par (the devil).’ {\cf2\super [77]} \par


“Praise God in heaven,\par and on earth let there be peace\par to the people that please God.”\par


The Word {\cf2\super [5]} became a man and lived among us. We saw his glory—the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father. The Word was full of grace (kindness) and truth.


Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory. So Isaiah spoke about him.


Paul said, “My brothers and my fathers, listen to me! I will make my defense to you.”


When Paul said this, there was a big argument between the Pharisees {\cf2\super [456]} and the Sadducees. {\cf2\super [457]} The group was divided.


The high priest {\cf2\super [120]} said to Stephen, “Are these things true?”


None of the rulers of this world understood this wisdom. If they had understood it, then they would not have killed our glorious Lord on a cross.


I always pray to the God of our Lord Jesus Christ—to the glorious Father. I pray that he will give you the Spirit that will show you things about God and help you understand them. Then you will really know God.


We should live like that while we are waiting for the coming of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. He is our great hope, and he will come with glory.


The Son shows the glory of God. He is a perfect copy of God’s nature. The Son holds everything together with his powerful command. The Son made people clean from their sins. Then he sat down at the right side {\cf2\super [2]} of the Great One (God) in heaven.


God called Abraham to travel to another place that God promised to give Abraham. Abraham did not know where that other place was. But Abraham obeyed God and started traveling, because Abraham had faith.


My dear brothers and sisters, you are believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. So don’t think that some people are more important than other people.


Then Joshua spoke to all the people. He said, “I am telling you what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you:


“Our Lord and God!\par You are worthy to receive glory and\par honor and power.\par You made all things.\par Everything existed and was made\par because you wanted it.”\par
