The Lord’s Spirit spoke through me. His word was on my tongue.


But \{God,\} my Master, will show you a sign:


The people of Israel and Judah will not serve foreign countries. No! They will serve the Lord their God. And they will serve David their king, {\cf2\super [236]} I will send that king to them.


But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,\par are the smallest town in Judah.\par Your family is almost too small to count.\par But the “Ruler of Israel”\par will come from you for me.\par His beginnings {\cf2\super [60]} are from ancient times,\par from long, long ago.\par


Then Jesus said to the Pharisees, “Then why did David call him ‘Lord’? David was speaking by the power of the \{Holy\} Spirit. {\cf2\super [324]} David said,


The soldiers nailed Jesus to a cross. Then the soldiers gambled with dice to decide who would get Jesus’ clothes.


With the help of the Holy Spirit, {\cf2\super [174]} David himself says:


Jesus said to them, “Remember when I was with you before? I said that everything written about me must happen—everything written in the law of Moses, the books of the prophets, {\cf2\super [396]} and the Psalms.”


Remember Jesus Christ. He is from the family of David. {\cf2\super [12]} After Jesus died, he was raised from death. This is the Good News {\cf2\super [13]} that I tell people.


In the past God spoke to our people through the prophets. {\cf2\super [1]} God spoke to them many times and in many different ways.


So it is like the Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [17]} says:


So God planned another special day. It is called “today.” God spoke about that day through David a long time later. It is the same Scripture {\cf2\super [30]} we used before:


God wanted to prove that his promise was true. God wanted to prove this to those people who would get what he promised. God wanted those people to understand clearly that his purposes (plans) never change. So God said something would happen, and he proved what he said by also making a vow (promise).


But Christ became a priest with God’s vow. God said to him:


No! No prophecy ever came from what a man wanted to say. But people were led by the Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [5]} and spoke things from God.


They will make war against the Lamb. But the Lamb will defeat them, because he is Lord of lords and King of kings. He will defeat them with his chosen and faithful followers—the people that he has called.”
