15 But I will never stop loving him. I will continue to be loyal to him. I took away my love and kindness from Saul. I pushed Saul away when I turned to you. {I will not do that to your family.}

I will be his father, and he will be my son. [51] When he sins, I will use other people to punish him. They will be my whips.


Your family of kings will continue—you can depend on that! For you, your kingdom will continue forever! Your throne (kingdom) will stand forever!”


Still, I will not tear away all of the kingdom from your son. I will leave him one family group to rule. I will do this for David—He was a good servant. And I will do this for Jerusalem—That is the city I chose.”


My love will protect the chosen king forever.\par My agreement with him will never end.\par


If the chosen king’s descendants {\cf2\super [510]} break my laws and ignore my commands,\par


But I will never take my love away\par from those people.\par I will always be loyal to them.\par


I will not break my agreement with David.\par I will not change our agreement.\par


God, where is the love you showed\par in the past?\par You promised David that you would be\par loyal to his family.\par


I will protect this city and save it.\par I will do this for myself\par and for my servant David.”\par


Listen closely to the things I say.\par Listen to me so your souls will live.\par Come to me and I will make an agreement\par with you that will continue forever.\par It will be like the agreement\par that I made with David.\par I promised David that I would love him\par and be loyal to him forever.\par And you can trust that agreement.\par


Power and peace will be in his kingdom. It will continue to grow for this king from David’s family. This king will use goodness and fair judgment to rule the kingdom forever and ever.


Refusing to obey is as bad as the sin of sorcery. [139] Being stubborn and doing what you want is like the sin of worshiping idols. You refused to obey the Lord’s command. For this reason, the Lord now refuses to accept you as king.”


But Samuel said to Saul, “I won’t go back with you. You refused the Lord’s command, and now the Lord refuses you as king of Israel.”


Samuel said to Saul, “{You tore my robe. In the same way,} the Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today. The Lord has given the kingdom to one of your friends. This man is a better person than you.


The Lord’s Spirit left Saul. Then the Lord sent a bad spirit to Saul. It caused him much trouble.


Saul even took off his clothes. Saul lay there naked all day and all night. So even Saul was prophesying there in front of Samuel.
