Jacob built an altar there to worship God. Jacob named the place “El, the God of Israel.”


There is no God except the Lord. There is no Rock [141] except our God.


David ruled over all of Israel. And David made good and fair decisions for all of his people.


Praise the Lord your God! He was pleased to make you king of Israel. The Lord God loves Israel. So he made you the king. You follow the law and treat people fairly.”


And also, during the whole time that I was appointed to be governor in the land of Judah, neither I nor my brothers ate the food that was allowed for the governor. \{I never forced the people to pay those taxes to buy my food.\} I was governor from the 20th year until the 32nd year that Artaxerxes was king. {\cf2\super [16]} I was governor of Judah for twelve years.


A person that hates to be fair\par can’t be a ruler.\par Job, God is strong and good.\par Do you think you can judge him guilty?\par


The Lord will help your kingdom grow.\par Your kingdom will start at Zion, {\cf2\super [573]} \par and \{it will grow until\} you rule\par your enemies in their own countries!\par


I speak to God, my Rock, {\cf2\super [263]} I say,\par “Lord, why did you forget me?\par Why must I suffer such sadness\par because of the cruelty of my enemy?”\par


God, help the king make wise decisions like you.\par And help the king’s son learn about your goodness.\par


Help the king judge your people fairly.\par Help him make wise decisions for your poor people.\par


But you should also choose some of the people to be judges and leaders.


“I am the Lord [123] your God. I led you out of the land of Egypt where you were slaves. {So you must obey these commands:}


God also said to Moses, “This is what you should tell the people: ‘YAHWEH [21] is the God of your ancestors, [22] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. My name will always be YAHWEH. That is how the people will know me for generations and generations to come.’ {Tell the people,} ‘YAHWEH has sent me to you!’”


Stand up for the things you know are right. And judge all people fairly. Protect the rights of poor people and people that need help.


Listen to the things I say! A king should rule in a way that brings goodness. Leaders should make fair decisions when they lead the people.


This message is from the Lord,\par “The time is coming,”\par “when I will raise up a good ‘sprout.’ {\cf2\super [181]} \par He will be a king\par who will rule in a wise way.\par He will do what is fair and right\par in the land.\par


City of Zion, rejoice!\par People of Jerusalem, shout with joy!\par Look, your king is coming to you!\par He is the good king that won the victory.\par But he is humble.\par He is riding on a donkey,\par on a young donkey\par born from a work animal.\par


“The Rock (the Lord)—his work is perfect! Why? Because all his ways are right! God is true and faithful. He is good and honest.


But God said this about his Son:
