2 Chronicles 36:19 - Easy To Read Version

19 Nebuchadnezzar and his army burned the temple. They broke down Jerusalem’s wall and burned all the houses that belonged to the king and his officials. They took or destroyed every valuable thing in Jerusalem.

This temple will be destroyed. Every person who sees it will be amazed. They will ask, ‘Why did the Lord do this terrible thing to this land and to this temple?’


This is what the Lord says, ‘I will bring trouble to this place and to the people living here! I will bring all the terrible things that are written in the book that was read in front of the king of Judah.


then I will take the people of Israel out from my land that I gave them. And I will leave this temple {\cf2\super [130]} that I have made holy for my name. I will make this temple something that all the nations will speak evil about.


Hanani and the men with him said, “Nehemiah, those Jews that escaped captivity and are in the land of Judah are in much trouble. Those people are having many problems and are full of shame. Why? Because the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”


But even though I was afraid, I said to the king, “May the king live forever! I am sad because the city where my ancestors {\cf2\super [5]} are buried lies in ruins. And the gates of that city have been destroyed by fire.”


God, some people from other nations\par came to fight your people.\par Those people ruined your holy temple.\par They left Jerusalem in ruins.\par


Those nations destroyed Jacob. {\cf2\super [456]} \par They destroyed Jacob’s country.\par


Your “vine” was burned in the fire\par like dry dung.\par You were angry at it and destroyed it.\par


I will make my vineyard {\cf2\super [47]} an empty field.\par No person will care for the plants.\par No person will work in the field.\par Weeds and thorns will grow there.\par I will command the clouds\par not to rain on the field.”\par


I have decided to make trouble for the city of Jerusalem. I will not help the city.’” This message is from the Lord. “‘I will give the city of Jerusalem to the king of Babylon. He will burn it with fire.’


‘You will get the punishment you deserve.\par I will start a fire in your forests.\par That fire will completely burn everything\par around you.’”\par


The Babylonian army is already attacking the city of Jerusalem. They will soon enter the city and start a fire. They will burn this city down. There are houses in this city where the people of Jerusalem made me angry by offering sacrifices to the false god Baal {\cf2\super [270]} on the housetops. And the people poured out drink offerings to other idol gods. The Babylonian army will burn down those houses.


So I will destroy the house called by my name in Jerusalem. I will destroy that temple {\cf2\super [60]} like I destroyed Shiloh. And that house in Jerusalem that is called by my name is the temple that you trust in. I gave that place to you and to your ancestors.


Don’t trust the lies that some people say. They say, “This is the temple {\cf2\super [52]} of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord {\cf2\super [53]} !”


See how the gold has grown dark.\par See how the good gold is changed.\par There are jewels {\cf2\super [25]} scattered all around.\par They are scattered at every street corner.\par


\{Leaders,\} because of you,\par Zion {\cf2\super [45]} will be destroyed.\par It will become a plowed field.\par Jerusalem will become a pile of rocks.\par Temple Mount will be an empty hill {\cf2\super [46]} overgrown with bushes.\par


The prophets were my servants. I used them to tell your ancestors about my laws and teachings. And your ancestors finally learned their lesson. They said, ‘The Lord All-Powerful did the things he said he would do. He punished us for the way we lived and for all the bad things we did.’ So they came back to God.”


But Jesus said, “The time will come when all that you see here will be destroyed. Every stone \{of these buildings\} will be thrown down to the ground. Not one stone will be left on another!”
